The Shaykh : This is not a season for saving; this is a season of generosity and liberality. Ah, our Lord, Mighty and Majestic, says: [Al-Baqarah 2:196] So the time is not a time for saving. Saving is in your country, but in the land of the Haram, you should be generous with all the delicious things you have. And the matter is more important than that: it is obligatory for every pilgrim to perform Hajj as a mutamatti', not as a mufrid. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when he performed the Farewell Pilgrimage, had the people with him in these three categories regarding their Hajj: some were mufrid, some were qarin, and some were mutamatti'. Then the qarin were of two types: some brought the sacrificial animals from here and there, from Madinah or from Dhul-Hulaifah, and some did not bring the sacrificial animals. The point is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered all the pilgrims, regardless of the type of their Hajj, to make their Hajj an 'Umrah. That is, he ordered those who were mufrid and those who were qarin who did not bring sacrificial animals to change their initial intention of Hajj al-ifrad to 'Umrah. And he (peace be upon him) said: Sunan Abi Dawud 1784 So he ordered them to exit the state of ihram after they had circumambulated seven times and walked between al-Safa and al-Marwah seven times. They were to exit the state of ihram either by shortening their hair or by shaving it, and shaving is better. Therefore, it is obligatory for the Muslim to perform Hajj as a mutamatti'. Then, the economic aspect is not an excuse here for not performing 'Umrah; because the alternative to the sacrificial animal is fasting. So there is no need for us to direct our attention to this matter with a purely economic view. This is one point.
then whoever performs 'umrah [during the Hajj months] followed by Hajj [offers] what can be obtained with ease of sacrificial animals. And whoever cannot find [or afford such an animal] - then a fast of three days during Hajj and of seven when you have returned
If I had known beforehand about my affair what I have come to know later, I would not have brought the sacrificial animals with me.
لو استقبلت من أمري ما استدبرت ، لما سقت الهدي ، ولجعلتها عُمرة ، فأحلوا أيها الناس
