Is it permissible to pray the Shafa' and Witr in congregation other than in Tarawih?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : In his second question, the questioner Ahmad, who resides in the State of Qatar, asks: Is it permissible to pray the Shafa' and Witr in congregation other than in Tarawih?

The Shaykh : The Shafa', the Witr, and the Tahajjud prayer are all permissible to be prayed in congregation occasionally, not always. The evidence for this is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed in congregation with some of his Companions. At one time, Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) prayed with him, at another time Abdullah ibn Mas'ud prayed with him, and at another time Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman prayed with him. However, this was not a regular practice; that is, he did not do it every night, but only occasionally. So, if a person stands up to pray Tahajjud and a guest has come to him, and this guest prays with him in congregation during his Tahajjud and Witr, there is nothing wrong with it. But not always. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good. This questioner is Sayyid Muhammad...

The Shaykh : And this is other than in Ramadan, because in Ramadan, it is recommended to pray in congregation from the beginning to the end in Tarawih, and this includes the Witr.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
