Explaining the importance of tawhid (the oneness of Allah) in the Muslim's creed, along with explaining the fruit of the one who unites Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He).

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : ... Our brothers present, except to remind them of what can be derived from some of the texts of the Shari'ah, and especially from the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Say, "I am only a man like you, to whom has been revealed that your god is one God. So whoever would hope for the meeting with his Lord - let him do righteous work and not associate in the worship of his Lord anyone."
[Al-Kahf 18:110]
. We, who adhere to acting upon the Book and the Sunnah and following the methodology of the righteous Salaf, have become known in the Islamic world, and that is by the grace of Allah upon us and upon the people. However, most people do not act upon this. We have become known for our concern with the creed in general, in accordance with the Book and the Sunnah and what the righteous Salaf were upon, and with tawhid (the oneness of Allah) in particular.
This is, without a doubt, a very great matter, and Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) has bestowed a favor upon us, for it is well known that tawhid (the oneness of Allah) is the foundation and origin of faith, and that any matter of faith or righteous deed benefits its owner nothing if he neglects tawhid (the oneness of Allah). This is the meaning of his saying (peace and blessings be upon him) in the famous authentic hadith:
Whoever says "La ilaha illa Allah" (There is no god but Allah) sincerely from his heart, Allah has forbidden his body to the Fire.
, narrated by al-Bukhari and others. "Allah has forbidden his body to the Fire" has two interpretations and two explanations:
The first is: Allah has forbidden his body to the Fire absolutely, such that the Fire does not touch him with any harm, and such that he falls under the exception mentioned in the saying of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) in the well-known verse which says:
And there is none of you except he will come to it. This is upon your Lord an inevitability decreed.
[Maryam 19:71]
- here is the exception -
Then We will save those who feared Allah and leave the wrongdoers within it, on their knees.
[Maryam 19:72]
. So this is an oath from Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) that there is no one among the accountable humans and jinn who will not enter the Fire, and "entering" here, according to the most correct opinion of the exegetes, means entering, meaning that every accountable soul must enter the Fire in a real sense. But here the righteous differ from the wicked. This entering may be accompanied by salvation, as He said:
Then We will save
, or it may be accompanied by punishment, as He completed the verse by saying:
and leave the wrongdoers within it, on their knees.
[Maryam 19:72]
. So "Allah has forbidden his body to the Fire" has two interpretations and two explanations:
The first is: that he does not enter the Fire in a way of punishment absolutely, and this is, without a doubt, for the one who fulfills the right of this medical word, "La ilaha illa Allah" (There is no god but Allah).
The second is: that he does not enter it in a way that he remains in it eternally, because his testimony of "La ilaha illa Allah" (There is no god but Allah) stands between him and this eternal abode in the Fire. And by this, he (peace and blessings be upon him) indicated in the authentic hadith narrated by al-Bazzar and others from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Narrated 'Urban bin Malik: who attended the Badr battle and was from the Ansar, that he came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said, "O Allah's Apostle! I have lost my eyesight and I lead my people in the prayer (as an Imam). When it rains, the valley which is between me and my people, flows with water, and then I cannot go to their mosque to lead them in the prayer. O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! I wish that you could come and pray in my house so that I may take it as a praying place. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Allah willing, I will do that." The next morning, soon after the sun had risen, Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) came with Abu Bakr. The Prophet (ﷺ) asked for the permission to enter and I admitted him. The Prophet (ﷺ) had not sat till he had entered the house and said to me, "Where do you like me to pray in your house?" I pointed at a place in my house whereupon he stood and said, "Allahu Akbar." We lined behind him and he prayed two rak`at and finished it with Taslim. We then requested him to stay for a special meal of Khazira which we had prepared. A large number of men from the adjoining area gathered in the house. One of them said, "Where is Malik bin Ad-Dukhshun?" Another man said, "He is a hypocrite and does not love Allah and His Apostle." The Prophet said, "Do not say so. Do you not think that he has said: "None has the right to be worshipped but Allah," seeking Allah's pleasure? The man said, "Allah and His Apostle know better, but we have always seen him mixing with hypocrites and giving them advice." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Allah has forbidden the (Hell) Fire for those who testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, seeking Allah's pleasure. " من قال لا إله إلا الله نفعته يومًا من دهره
Sahih al-Bukhari 5401
. "It benefited him one day of his life" means that if he enters the Fire and is punished therein for as long as Allah wills of punishment for what his hands have earned, he must surely come out of the Fire one day. This is the meaning of his saying (peace be upon him):
One of them said, "Where is Malik bin Ad-Dukhshun?" Another man said, "He is a hypocrite and does not love Allah and His Apostle." " من قال لا إله إلا الله نفعته يومًا من دهره
Sahih al-Bukhari 5401
. So this testimony of tawhid (the oneness of Allah), when Allah (Mighty and Majestic) bestows a favor upon some of His servants by believing in it with understanding and conviction, is the greatest blessing, because its result is that either he does not enter the Fire absolutely, and this is if he fulfills its right as we mentioned earlier, or if he does enter it, he does not abide in it with those who abide eternally. This is a very great blessing.
