My father works in trade, and among the goods he sells are cameras and musical instruments. Is it permissible for me to eat anything from my father's house when I go to visit them?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Shaykh, the question is number five. My father works in trade, and among the goods he sells are cameras and musical instruments. Is it permissible for me to eat anything from my father's house when I go to visit them?

The Shaykh : It is necessary to recall the previous detail here. What is the predominant nature of the father's wealth?

The questioner : Yes, exactly.

The Shaykh : One should recall the previous detail regarding the giver. If the predominant nature of the wealth is lawful, then it is lawful; and if the predominant nature is forbidden, then it is forbidden. However, note that the situation here is delicate regarding the relationship between the son and the father. If he can avoid causing a severance between himself and his father by refusing to eat or drink, he should do so. Otherwise, he should eat only the amount he believes to be lawful.

The questioner : In order to please his father, meaning?

The Shaykh : Yes

The questioner : Because, as I said, the treatment of the parents is special and involves sensitivity!

The Shaykh : It is well known, yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : And you as well.

The questioner : In His saying, Blessed and Exalted is He:
But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness و إن جاهادك على أن تشرك بي ما ليس لك به علم فلا تطعهما و صاحبهما في الدنيا معروفا
[Luqman 31:15]
meaning, even if they were disbelievers, in the relationship of companionship, meaning.

The Shaykh : Yes, of course.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : And you as well.
