Clarification that the true school of thought is the school of the righteous Salaf.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : ... Along with this, three schools of thought have emerged in creed. How are these three schools of thought in creed to be understood? They are truth, and our Lord - Mighty and Majestic - says:
And what can be beyond truth except error?
[Yunus 10:32]
? Therefore, so that we may be safe from falling into such disagreement and safe from falling into such deviation from the Book and the Sunnah in understanding—not merely faith in the Book and the Sunnah, for all Islamic sects believe in the Book and the Sunnah, but many of them do not truly believe in the Book and the Sunnah; they believe in it verbally, but not in its meaning; so what is the benefit of believing in the wording without believing in the meaning? So you have understood how they believe in the wording...
... We call to the Book and the Sunnah upon the methodology of the righteous Salaf. How can we know what our righteous Salaf were upon, whether it pertained to creed, or to jurisprudence, or to conduct? The path by which we know what the Messenger - peace be upon him - was upon is the same path by which we know what the righteous Salaf were upon; that is, in brief, the path of narration, the path of hadith and receiving the narrations pertaining to the Prophet - may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him - or to the righteous Salaf, through the path of narrations and hadith.
This path has been deviated from by the majority of Muslims today and before today for centuries. Their majority relied on their own opinions in understanding the Book and the Sunnah, and they did not feel at all in the depths of their souls that they needed to seek assistance in understanding the Book and the Sunnah through the reports of the righteous Salaf. They did not feel this, but we, by the grace of the scholars who preceded us, became aware of this important point: namely, the necessity of understanding the Book and the Sunnah upon the methodology of the righteous Salaf. Evidence of this is His saying - Blessed and Exalted is He - :
And whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has become clear to him and follows other than the way of the believers - We will give him what he has taken and drive him into Hell, and evil it is as a destination.
[An-Nisa 4:115]
. Here is a very subtle and delicate point in the noble verse. Our Lord mentioned the path of the believers in conjunction with opposing Allah and the Messenger, and He said:
And whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has become clear to him
[An-Nisa 4:115]
. He did not suffice with this opposition; He added to it His saying:
and follows other than the way of the believers - We will give him what he has taken and drive him into Hell, and evil it is as a destination.
[An-Nisa 4:115]
. Do you see what the point is in mentioning the path of the believers? If the verse had been: "And whoever opposes the Messenger after the clear proof has come to him, We will turn him to what he has turned to and cast him into Hell, and evil is the destination," do you think it would have fully served the purpose for which the verse was established:
and follows other than the way of the believers
[An-Nisa 4:115]
?
We say: No. So here is a profound point in Allah's - Mighty and Majestic - mention of the phrase:
and follows other than the way of the believers
[An-Nisa 4:115]
in conjunction with the saying of the Lord of the Worlds:
And whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has become clear to him and follows other than the way of the believers
[An-Nisa 4:115]
. Why did He mention this phrase? Let it become clear to you now why. That is: following the Messenger - peace be upon him - and not going against his Sunnah is only achieved by following the path of the believers who followed him with excellence - may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him. Otherwise, if we did as the Mu'tazilah and the Khawarij did, we would impose our heads and our understandings, or rather our desires, upon the texts of the Book and the Sunnah, and we would be lost in far deviation, and we would be among those who opposed Allah and the Messenger. In the name of what? "This is how we understand it." This is a cause for the misguided sects to fall into contradicting the Shari'ah in many creeds, let alone in jurisprudential rulings.
