A woman whose menstrual period has ended, then her husband had intercourse with her and blood came out, and she had not previously seen the white discharge; what is the ruling?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : As for if the seven days of her usual period ended and he had intercourse with her, and she said that she had become pure and prayed; meaning it was complete, then after the seven days the blood came down and there was no purity, which is the white discharge; is this the case in this situation?

The Shaykh : When did the purity occur?

The questioner : After the seven days, meaning the seventh day of her usual period occurred, and she prayed after the seventh day, but it extended to the eighth day.

The Shaykh : What is the eighth day?

The questioner : Meaning after the seventh day of her usual period.

The Shaykh : Yes, yes.

The questioner : Meaning this blood came down, so she had not seen the purity; because many women in this state—O our Shaykh—repeatedly say: We do not see this usual purity except that the blood stops and ends. It is known, as you used to remind us, that one sees the white discharge, its color being like yellowish-white, this is what is known...

The Shaykh : This is not possible; because the blood of menstruation—my brother—is not like any blood that comes out from any part of a person's body, whether male or female. Now, if a small vein bursts in a person, whether a man or a woman, and it is not treated and continues, what happens? It flows and flows, and its color never changes; even if we assume the last drop of blood comes out and his soul leaves with it, the blood remains as it was, except for the blood of menstruation. So the blood of menstruation, Allah (Mighty and Majestic) by His power and wisdom made it develop so that a woman does not confuse purity with menstruation. So the blood of menstruation, when it first starts, is bright red, black, not like normal blood. Add to that that it has an unbearable foul smell. Then, with the days, it begins to thin out, thin out, like this, to become yellow, to become like pus, like this, like this, like this, until what appears? The white discharge; meaning the red blood turns into a white fluid. So why do women not know this thing? It means...

The questioner : Meaning many men, when they ask, and I am speaking this word, even from many of our brothers, they say there is nothing, they say O brothers, like this, like this, like this, as you explained to us—may Allah reward you with good—... Among them, up to today, meaning they asked the young men, I stood and mentioned the words I mentioned, I said I... My brothers, but I just wanted now, because it has been a year.

The Shaykh : By Allah, this issue requires that a person speak with a woman who is his wife, his daughter, or his sister, and speak to her frankly; and that she be aware of what happens to her? Meaning, does the blood stop, does the fluid stop suddenly, does it become red as it started, does it end? It is impossible for this to be said. Is there a problem in what you hear? Is there a woman who, when the blood of menstruation first bursts out of her, bursts out yellow pus?

The questioner: No.

The Shaykh : No, would it be? Red blood. Good; is there a woman where this red blood continues for seven days, ten days, her time? So I do not think the answer would be: No. So what happens with them? So this is the first sign that alerts the reasonable, knowledgeable person that they do not care about themselves; so as long as the blood started red and black, then after two or three days it thins from what it was, when it stops completely, what will its color be? One of them might say: Its color is pus, meaning yellow... as came in some hadiths, good; and then? So this wife, or this sister, or that daughter is followed up with this logical, sequential inquiry until they become aware of their error and negligence in scrutinizing this issue; because a ruling will be built upon this; she saw the white discharge on the eighth day, she saw blood, and suppose it is black blood that has no value, this is istihadah (irregular non-menstrual bleeding), but she says: I did not see the white discharge, so you have not become pure.
