Please clarify what is stated in *al-Silsilah al-Sahihah* regarding the weakening of the chain of the addition of the phrase "and His mercy," and then its improvement by the Qur'anic text.

The questioner : Here, our brother Abu al-Hasan wrote here, saying: I read in his handwritingThe Shaykh : in the margin of *al-Silsilah al-Sahihah*, Part Six, his weakening of the chain of the addition of "and His mercy," and then his improvement of it by the generality of the Qur'anic text.

The Shaykh : Yes, indeed.

Another questioner : Completing, O Shaykh, the previous research.

The Shaykh : This means that this is a corroborating proof in the sense that if a weak hadith is corroborated in its meaning by a Qur'anic text, then in terms of meaning it is valid. This is because He, Blessed and Exalted is He, said:
And when you are greeted with a greeting, greet [in return] with one better than it or [at least] return it وإذا حييتم بتحية فحيوا بأحسن منها أو ردوها
[An-Nisa 4:86]
If the degrees of initiating the greeting are three: "Peace be upon you," "Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah," and "Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessing," then the best degree of initiating the greeting is for the Muslim to say, "Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessing." If the Muslim wishes to apply the noble verse, "Greet with a greeting better than it," he must add something to what the initiator of the greeting said; otherwise, he would have applied only part of the verse and not the other part, which is more complete, where He said:
greet [in return] with one better than it or [at least] return it [in a like manner] فحيوا بأحسن منها أو ردوها
[An-Nisa 4:86]
The one who initiated the greeting with a complete greeting of "Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessing," and the one who responded to him with the same, did not respond with something better than it; he responded with the same as it. How can the response be better than it? Here, we also take guidance to strengthen the meaning of the hadith. Even if there were not such a Qur'anic text, the practice of the Salaf, the practice of 'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, who used to prevent the addition in the initial greeting and add to the response to the complete greeting, is what he intended.

Another questioner : This, along with this, I say this along with this.

The Shaykh : What is this along with this?

Another questioner : I mean the generality of the Qur'anic text.

The Shaykh : Along with the athar, yes.

The questioner : What Allah willed.

The Shaykh : Yes, and we ask Allah to grant us understanding in the hadith of our Prophet and to connect us to it.

The questioner : May Allah accept it.
