What is the clear difference between saying so-and-so has *idrak* (awareness of the Prophet), so-and-so has *ru'ya* (sight of the Prophet), and so-and-so is a young Companion?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : I mean, in terms of the ruling on the narrator’s status as a Companion, they say so-and-so has *idrak* (awareness of the Prophet), so-and-so has *ru'ya* (sight of the Prophet), and so-and-so is a young Companion. I want you, may Allah reward you, to explain the clear differences between these terms regarding the ruling on Companionship. Perhaps the last one, the young Companion, may appear to have Companionship, but he also has *idrak* and *ru'ya*?

The Shaykh : Naturally, *idrak* (awareness of the Prophet) and *ru'ya* (sight of the Prophet) are less indicative than saying he has *sahabah* (Companionship), because *sahabah*, as is clear to you, observes the linguistic meaning, even if within narrow limits. As for having *idrak* and *ru'ya*, that does not necessarily imply it; one might have seen him as a small child and been aware of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was likewise, but the meaning of Companionship does not apply to him, no matter how narrow you make its scope, no matter how narrow you make its scope. Therefore, the one about whom it is said he has *sahabah* (Companionship) is closer to being counted among the Companions than the one about whom it is said he has *ru'ya* (sight of the Prophet) or *idrak* (awareness of the Prophet).

The questioner : So, the one who is said to have *idrak* (awareness of the Prophet) and *ru'ya* (sight of the Prophet), his narration is *mursal* (missing the Companion link).

The Shaykh : *Mursal* (missing the Companion link).

The questioner : And the young Companion, his narration is *muttasil* (connected).

The Shaykh : Yes, exactly.
