Discussion of the Signs of the Hour, including: the emergence of Gog and Magog.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh:
(96) Until when [the dam of] Gog and Magog has been opened and they, from every elevation, descend (97) And [when] the true promise has approached حتى إذا فتحت يأجوج ومأجوج وهم من كل حدب ينسلون * واقترب الوعد الحق
[Al-Anbya 21:96-97]
, There is no doubt that belief in the people known as Gog and Magog is one of the correct Islamic beliefs, because its basis exists in the Qur'an and its narrative and details exist in the Sunnah. The barrier mentioned before this verse in the Noble Qur'an is the one our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke about in the authentic hadith, stating that behind this barrier are the people of Gog and Magog, and that every day they head toward this barrier to break through it into the world. They lick it with their tongues until a glimmer of light appears to them, and they say, "Tomorrow we will finish it and come out of it." But when they return, they find it has returned to its original state. Until when Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) wills to permit them to come out, He inspires some of them to say, "Tomorrow, if Allah wills." They return to the barrier... and find it as they left it, so they complete it, and then they come out, and
from every elevation, descend من كل حدب ينسلون
[Al-Anbya 21:96]
as the Lord of the Worlds said.
Now, the doubt raised in this time, starting from the disbelievers and ending with some of the weak in knowledge—if not weak in faith—these people claim more than the disbelievers claim. These people, weak in knowledge and perhaps in faith, claim what the disbelievers themselves do not claim. They say that the disbelievers have mapped the earth and know all its lands, between mountains, plateaus, plains, rivers, seas, forests, and the like; so they claim! that there is no place left that their feet have not trodden. Meanwhile, this claim was not made by the disbelievers themselves; and that is because—regrettably—we acknowledge that these disbelievers do not believe in anything but scientific research, and scientific research made them hesitate to claim what they do not know. They say, "We have reached this point and do not know what is beyond it." As for the weak in knowledge and faith from our nation... from the knowledge they do not acknowledge, they have mapped the earth... So we say: this is a claim devoid of evidence. The believer must believe in the Qur'an and the hadith of the Messenger (peace be upon him) at least more than he believes in the statements, research, and experiments of the disbelievers. And if the Qur'an has explicitly stated the existence of a barrier there, and the existence of people behind this barrier, and that a day will come when they break through it; this means that the disbelievers are still, as Allah (Mighty and Majestic) said—as a general principle addressed to all mankind:
And mankind have not been given of knowledge except a little." وما أوتيتم من العلم إلا قليلًا
[Al-Isra 17:85]
. So from this knowledge that they have not encompassed until now, they have not yet found the barrier of Dhul-Qarnayn, nor the people who are behind it. Where is it? It is undoubtedly on this earth;
And Allah Knows, while you know not. والله يعلم وأنتم لا تعلمون
[Al-Baqarah 2:216]
.
Therefore, let it not be difficult for anyone that these disbelievers have mapped the earth; this is a false claim. Moreover, if these disbelievers had found any of that, they would have hastened to deny it; because in that would be confirmation of the religion of Islam, and they are disbelievers in it. And at that time, what the Lord of the Worlds said about the first polytheists would be true of them:
And they rejected them, while their [inner] selves were convinced thereof وجحدوا بها واستيقنتها أنفسهم
[An-Naml 27:14]
. This is my answer to this problem, and its summary is: we believe in what came in the Book and the Sunnah, and we disbelieve in what is said to have no existence.

The questioner: Shaykh, the saying of the Messenger (peace be upon him)
Woe to the Arabs, from the Great evil that is nearly approaching them. Today a gap has been made in the wall of Gog and Magog like this. ويلٌ للعرب من شرٍّ قد اقترب ؛ فُتح اليوم من ردم يأجوج ومأجوج مثل هذه
Sahih al-Bukhari 7059
and he shaved, to the end of the hadith.
The saying of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), along with what was mentioned of his saying (peace be upon him) that they lick this barrier with their tongues; does this mean that from that time this mound was opened; meaning the same...?

The Shaykh: Every day this.

The questioner: Every day.

The Shaykh: Then it returns as it was.

The questioner: Meaning the saying of the Messenger:
today has been opened فتح اليوم
does it mean every day?

The Shaykh: Yes, every day.
