A Reminder to the Imams of Mosques During Prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : However, I must point out something that this reminder is directed to the imams of mosques, or at least to some of them. We hear some of the imams, when they are reciting aloud in the first two rak'ahs, for example, of the Maghrib or 'Isha' prayer, recite the Qur'an as it was revealed, and as the Lord of the Worlds said:
and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation. ورتل القرآن ترتيلًا
[Al-Muzzammil 73:4]
. The worshipper is pleased with such recitation because it brings humility to him; so much so that the one behind him who wants to recite al-Fatihah is able to recite al-Fatihah twice instead of once. Why? Because he is deliberate in his recitation and recites it with measured recitation. But when he finishes the loud recitation and the secret rak'ah comes, there you see him reciting al-Fatihah very quickly. So this problem arises, in that those who want to recite al-Fatihah behind him cannot complete it; because this imam hastens in reciting al-Fatihah with a strange and very strange haste. Therefore, I am pointing out this error because of the other error that results from it, which you heard mentioned earlier. And what I fear most is that the one who does that seems to compel the listeners to accuse him of some showing off in worship. So when he recites aloud, he recites as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who does not recite the Qur'an in a pleasant tone is not of us. من لم يتغنَّ بالقرآن فليس منَّا
Riyad as-Salihin 1007
, or
He who does not chant the Qur'an is not one of us. ليس منَّا من لم يتغنَّ بالقرآن
Sunan Abi Dawud 1469Sahih (Al-Albani)
. So when he recites aloud, he beautifies the Qur'an within the limits of the rules of tajwid. But when he recites the Qur'an secretly, he—as it came in some reports—“recites it rapidly like the recitation of poetry,” and he hastens in it, so the aforementioned problem occurs. So I remind the imams to take this matter into consideration. Just as he recites the Qur'an with measured recitation in the loud prayers, he must also recite the Qur'an with measured recitation in the secret prayers. And just as he divides al-Fatihah verse by verse in the loud prayers, he must also divide it verse by verse in the secret prayers, and not contradict his recitation in the loud prayers and in the secret prayers.
And this is a reminder, and the reminder benefits the believers.
Please proceed.
