The ruling on reciting al-Fatihah behind the imam in the loud prayers

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The brother M. S. Y. from Najran in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia says in his question: I am unable to recite al-Fatihah in the loud prayers behind the imam because the imam begins reciting immediately after al-Fatihah, and by nature I am unable to recite or make du'a' when someone else is reciting, as it distracts me. I ask your eminence to guide me. May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
It is obligatory for you to recite al-Fatihah if you are behind the imam in the loud and quiet prayers, even if the imam does not pause in the loud prayers. This is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
He who does not recite Umm al-Qur'an is not credited with having observed prayer.لا صلاة لمن لم يقرأ بأم القرآن
Sahih Muslim 394c
It is agreed upon that it is authentic. And his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Perhaps you recite behind your imam?لعلكم تقرؤون خلف إمامكم؟
Sunan Abi Dawud 823Da'if (Al-Albani)
They said: Yes. So he said (peace and blessings be upon him):
Do not do so except when it is Fatihat al-Kitab, for he who does not recite it is not credited with having prayed.لا تفعلوا إلا بفاتحة الكتاب، فإنه لا صلاة لمن لم يقرأ بها
Sunan Abi Dawud 823Da'if (Al-Albani)
. May Allah guide everyone to beneficial knowledge and acting upon it.
