The questioner : In his second question, he says: May the Shaykh be respected, may Allah preserve you. I am a resident of al-Madinah al-Nabawiyyah. Is it recommended that every time I enter the Prophet’s Mosque, may Allah pray upon him and grant him peace, I go to the direction of the grave to greet it, or face the grave from any place in the mosque and offer the greeting?

The Shaykh : No, it is not recommended for a person, every time he enters al-Masjid al-Nabawi, to go to the grave of the Prophet, may Allah pray upon him and his family, and grant him peace, and greet him. This is because this was not the practice of the righteous Salaf. And there is no doubt that we do not love the Messenger, may Allah pray upon him and grant him peace, as much as Abu Bakr, 'Umar, 'Uthman, 'Ali, and others of the Companions loved him. And yet, it is not reported that any of them would repeatedly go to the grave of the Prophet, may Allah pray upon him and grant him peace, every time he entered the mosque to greet him. It is also not reported that any of them would stand at the far end of the mosque, face the grave, and greet him, ever.
And greeting the Prophet, may Allah pray upon him and grant him peace, is prescribed in the prayer itself. A person says, “Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.” But, unfortunately, many people worship Allah the Exalted with what they do not know. We ask Allah for guidance and success for us and for them.

The questioner : O Allah, amen. And may Allah reward you with the best reward for us and for the Muslims.
