The questioner : This questioner, Umm 'Abd al-Rahman from Yemen, says: I am asking about the meaning of the hadith: "Whoever sits in a gathering and does not remember Allah the Exalted will regret it and feel remorse on the Day of Resurrection." We are a group of sisters, and when we meet and sit, we begin by remembering Allah and sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and we mention the Companions, the Tabi'un, and the scholars who have passed away (may Allah have mercy on them) and those who are still alive (may Allah preserve them). The question is: Do we receive reward when we mention the scholars?
The Shaykh : There is no doubt that if a person sits in a gathering with his companions and they do not remember Allah and do not send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he has lost this gathering and will regret it on the Day of Resurrection, for how he missed the opportunity in this gathering to remember Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). Therefore, it should be that no gathering is devoid of the remembrance of Allah or the remembrance of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), whether at the beginning, during the conversation, or at the conclusion of the conversation.
As for mentioning the Companions and the Tabi'un with good, and the scholars and the imams, there is no doubt that mentioning them revives the hearts and necessitates loving them, sending mercy upon them, and seeking forgiveness for them. However, for us to say that this is a required matter, it needs evidence. Yes.
