The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) quoted, in the context of the hadiths in the chapter on the etiquettes of the gathering and the companion: "From Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Those people who leave a gathering in which they have not remembered Allah, will conclude it as if it has foul odour similar to that of a rotten carcass of a donkey. And it will be a cause of grief to them. ما من قوم يقومون من مجلس لا يذكرون الله تعالى فيه إلا قاموا عن مثل جيفة حمار وكان لهم حسرة
Riyad as-Salihin 834
Abu Dawud narrated it with a sound chain. And from him (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said:
Whenever a group of people sit in a gathering in which they do not remember Allah the Exalted, nor supplicate to elevate the rank of their Prophet, such a gathering will be a cause of grief to them. If Allah wills, He will punish them, and if He wills He will forgive them. ما جلس قوم مجلسًا لم يذكروا الله تعالى فيه ولم يصلوا على نبيهم فيه إلا كان عليهم ترة، فإن شاء عذبهم وإن شاء غفر لهم
Riyad as-Salihin 835
Al-Tirmidhi narrated it and said: A good hadith. And from him (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who said:
If anyone sits in a gathering where he does not remember Allah, he will bring grief upon himself (on the Day of Resurrection), and he who lies down in a place where he does not remember Allah, will bring grief upon himself (on the Day of Resurrection). من قعد مقعدًا لم يذكر الله تعالى فيه كانت عليه من الله ترة، ومن اضطجع مضجعًا لا يذكر الله تعالى فيه كانت عليه من الله ترة
Riyad as-Salihin 836
Abu Dawud narrated it with a good chain"

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
These are three hadiths explaining the etiquettes of the gathering, and all of them indicate that it is recommended for a person, when he sits in a gathering, to take advantage of the remembrance of Allah the Mighty and Majestic and sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), because they indicate that if a group sits in a gathering in which they do not remember Allah and do not send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), it will be a loss from Allah for them, meaning a severance and a loss; if He wills, He will punish them, and if He wills, He will forgive them. But how does this happen? This happens if a man, for example, mentions to the group some of the signs of Allah the Mighty and Majestic, for this is among the remembrance of Allah. For example, he might say, "We are in these days in warmth as if we are in spring, and this is among the signs of Allah that we are in the height of winter and in the coldest of the days of winter, yet we are in this heat as if we are in summer. This is among the signs of Allah." And he might say, for example, "If all of creation gathered to warm the air with this warmth in these days which are customarily cold, they would not be able to do so, and the like of that." Or, for example, he mentions one of the conditions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), such as saying, "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was the most fearful of the people of Allah and the most mindful of Allah." He mentions the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and then sends blessings upon him, and those present, if they listen to him, are like him in reward. This is how the remembrance of Allah the Mighty and Majestic and sending blessings upon His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is done. And if he wills, a person remembers Allah from the beginning when he sits, saying, "Masha'Allah, there is no power except with Allah, there is no god but Allah," and the like of that. The important thing is that the sensible person can know how to remember Allah and send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) in this gathering. And among that also is that when the gathering ends and he wants to rise, he says:
Glory be to Thee. O Allah, and I begin with praise of Thee, I testify that there is no god but Thou; I ask Thy pardon, and return to Thee in repentance. سبحانك اللهم ربنا وبحمدك أشهد أن لا إله إلا أنت أستغفرك وأتوب إليك
Sunan Abi Dawud 4859Hasan Sahih (Al-Albani)
And in this is evidence that it is recommended for a person, based on these three hadiths, that he should not let a gathering or a place of rest pass by without remembering Allah, so that he may be among those about whom Allah said: "Those who remember Allah standing, sitting, and lying on their sides." And success is from Allah.
