The student: O brothers, as you know, the Sunnah is the most precious thing for us, and it is part of faith. May Allah reward him well, our Shaykh. The Shaykh : Nasir al-Din al-Albani, may Allah bless him. My request was for him to lead the prayer, but the Sunnah, as you know, is that the one closest to the deceased should pray over the funeral. So, may Allah bless our Shaykh for bringing us forward, and may Allah bless you and reward you with good. I ask Allah to grant us and you the following of the Sunnah and to make it easy for us. My dear brothers, a brief note on the funeral prayer so that when we apply the Sunnah, we will be rewarded and the deceased will benefit from our prayer according to the Sunnah. The Sunnah, O brothers, is to pray over the funeral with four takbirs, and it is permissible to do more than four. May Allah will it, we will pray more than four; seven, may Allah will it, we will pray seven takbirs, so that we vary our practice as our Shaykh, may Allah reward him well, taught us by varying the Sunnah in teaching the Ummah. In this is great good from the guidance of the Chosen One (peace and blessings be upon him). We pray seven takbirs. O brothers, after the first takbir, we recite al-Fatihah, and we do not recite the opening supplication before it, meaning the seeking of refuge and the basmalah and Surat al-Fatihah. Then we recite whatever is easy from the Qur'an, then we recite whatever is easy from the Qur'an. After that, we say takbir and we pray upon the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) the prayer we recite in the regular prayer, which we call the Ibrahimic prayer, which is the prayer upon the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). Then we say takbir and we supplicate for the deceased. I advise you, my brothers, to be sincere in your supplication for the deceased, because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) advised sincerity in supplication for the deceased so that the deceased benefits from the intercession of the supplication, by the grace of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). You also receive reward for your sincerity and turning to Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) in this prayer. A person remembers and holds in his heart the greatness of death so that he becomes humble and turns to Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) with sincerity and supplication to Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). We remind the brothers that the supplication should be from the transmitted supplications that we learned from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), where he supplicated for the dead during his lifetime. Among these good supplications with which the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated is: Sahih Muslim 963a, 963b. This is a great supplication; even the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), when they heard this from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), wished that they were the one who had died, because of the mercy in these Prophetic words for the deceased. So we ask Allah to inspire us and you to learn the Sunnah and to supplicate for our dead with what the Chosen One (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated for the best of the Ummah in his time (peace and blessings be upon him).
Now is not the time for teaching, but we draw the brothers' attention to learning the guidance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in his good hadiths, and as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih al-Bukhari 6008. The funeral prayer is among the prayers the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed over the Companions during his lifetime. So we ask Allah to inspire us and you with truth, sincerity, and turning to Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) in this supplication.
Also, in the other takbirs, there is supplication. There is no harm in repeating the supplication that a person has memorized. If some of the brothers have not memorized a supplication, there is nothing wrong with him supplicating: "O Allah, forgive him, O Allah, have mercy on him," and he repeats asking for forgiveness, repentance, and turning to Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) for forgiveness.
We remind the brothers that the Sunnah is not to raise the hands except with the first takbir, then he places his hands and does not raise them. With the first, he says Allahu Akbar and does not raise his hands until he finishes the prayer. The taslim is done in a low voice by the imam, and he says taslim as the imam does. We ask Allah to grant us and you sincerity and acceptance, and may Allah reward you with good.
We remind the brothers not to raise their voices with dhikr while the funeral is being carried, while walking on the road, or at the grave, because the Sunnah is that the Muslim walks in the funeral procession with tranquility upon him.
We also alert our brothers not to be occupied in the cemetery with stones, dirt, rocks, clay, and the like, but to follow the guidance of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), for he said:.
So we ask Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) to inspire us and you, O brothers, to apply the Sunnah, to be occupied at the grave with seeking forgiveness for the deceased, and not to be occupied with worldly talk or matters that have no benefit in the religion. We ask Allah to help us and you to apply the Sunnah so that you are rewarded. O brothers, it is a great reward; for every qirat you have, there is a mountain in Paradise. It is a great reward for every qirat in praying over the funeral, following the funeral, standing at the grave, seeking forgiveness, remembering the fear of Allah, and remembering death, for in that is a lesson. Because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) advised us to visit the sick, follow the funeral, and visit the cemeteries so that we remember the Hereafter and remember the return to Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He).
So we ask Allah to inspire us and you to apply the Sunnah, and to grant us, and we do not praise anyone before Allah, people like you, righteous and God-fearing, to pray for us. We ask Allah to grant us and you taqwa and guidance. May Allah bless you and reward you with good for this gathering. Stand in rows.
O Allah! forgive him, have mercy upon him, give him peace and absolve him. Receive him with honour and make his grave spacious
اللهم اغفر له وارحمه وعافه واعف عنه وأكرم نزله ووسع مدخله ...Now is not the time for teaching, but we draw the brothers' attention to learning the guidance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in his good hadiths, and as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
