Wudu for those with severed hands

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Wudu for the paralyzed

Question: I am a person whom Allah has afflicted with paralysis in the lower half of my body, from the beginning of the abdomen down to the feet. How do I perform wudu for prayer, given that the majority of my body is paralyzed? If I wish to perform ghusl, it is difficult for me, and most of the time I have no one to bring me water, or to perform ghusl or wudu for me. I am currently praying without wudu, so please issue a ruling for us, may Allah reward you with the best of good. Is my prayer valid or not? And what do you advise me to do?

Answer: If you are able to perform wudu, even with assistance, then it is obligatory for you to perform wudu, even if you must seek help from someone to bring you water and pour it over your limbs. However, if you are unable to do this, it is sufficient for you to perform tayammum with clean earth, by having pure earth brought to you. When the time for prayer arrives and you wish to pray, and you have no one to help you with wudu or bring you water, you perform tayammum with this earth and pray according to your condition. And Allah knows best.

Question: If he is able to wash some of the limbs but not others, is he required to wash them along with performing tayammum?

Answer: If he is able to wash some of the limbs and is unable to wash the rest, he washes what he is able to and performs tayammum for the rest.
[Wudu for those with severed hands]

Question: How does one perform wudu if his hands have been severed, or if he was born without hands, when he does not have someone to assist him with wudu permanently?

Answer: He performs wudu according to his ability;because of His saying, the Exalted:
So fear Allah as much as you are ableفَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
[Surat al-Taghabun: 16], so he performs wudu on the remaining limbs if he has no hands, for example if his hands were severed from the elbows, or if he was not created with hands at all. In this case, he performs wudu on the remaining limbs, which are the face, wiping the head, and the feet. If he has someone to perform wudu for him and assist him in doing so, it is obligatory for him to perform wudu because there is someone to assist him. Or, for example, he may have a water pipe that he opens and leaves to pour water over his face, wipes his head with something, and washes his feet from the poured water. In this case, it is obligatory for him to do so, because he is able to perform wudu in this situation with assistance or by having water poured over him from a tap or pipe. If he finds neither of these and is unable to do so, he prays according to his condition and does not abandon the prayer, meaning he washes what he is able to of that.
