Is it permissible to borrow from the mosque library for a small fee given to those in charge of it to help them in their work?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : We established an audio library in our mosque containing tapes of Salafi da'wah scholars, so that the illiterate, in particular, and the youth in general, can learn about this blessed and good call. We made it a condition that anyone who wants to participate in the activities of this library and record there must pay a small fee as a registration right, and must pay a small fee for each tape they borrow as their registration right, and must pay a fee for each tape they borrow that is less than the first one if they are able to do so. This is so that those in charge of this library can cover its expenses. Also, because the recording of the tapes takes place inside the mosque using the facilities available in the mosque, which are within the scope of supporting this library, and we found unprecedented enthusiasm, especially in the demand for tapesThe Shaykh : (may Allah preserve him), is this work permissible, especially the profit from registration and lending rights?

The Shaykh : I say this work is permissible, and Allah knows best, for two reasons, with a condition that must be mentioned. The first reason is that what is prohibited in the mosque is buying and selling, and here there is nothing of that. Second, the prohibition of buying and selling in the mosque is a matter with a rational meaning, not a purely devotional matter without a rational meaning. This is indicated by the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to the one who heard someone calling out for a lost item in the mosque:
May Allah not return it to you!" For the mosques were not built for that. لا رد الله عليك ضالتك إن المساجد لم تبن لهذا
Sunan Ibn Majah 767Sahih (Darussalam)
,
May your trade not be profitable. لا أربح تجارك
to the one who said:
For the mosques were not built for that. إن المساجد لم تبن لهذا
Sunan Ibn Majah 767Sahih (Darussalam)
?

The questioner : ... The Shaykh : He is speaking about the lost item that you quoted regarding selling.

The Shaykh : I quoted the hadith about the lost item. The point is that there are hadiths prohibiting the calling out for lost items and hadiths prohibiting buying and selling in the mosque. They have a rational meaning and are not purely devotional. What is their rationality? One aspect of the rationality of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the authentic hadith narrated by Imam Malik in his Muwatta, Abu Dawud in his Sunan, and others, is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard a commotion in the mosque one day while he was in his house, so he lifted the curtain and said:
O people, each of you is conversing with his Lord, so do not raise your voices over one another in recitation, thereby causing harm to the believers. يا أيها الناس كلكم يناجي ربه فلا يجهر بعضكم على بعض بالقراءة
, in a narration
with the Qur'an بالقرآن
, added by someone other than those we mentioned, namely al-Baghawi,
so that you do not harm the believers فتؤذوا المؤمنين
,
Let not some of you raise your voices over others in recitation, so that you harm the believers. لا يجهل بعضكم على بعضٍ بالقراءة فتؤذوا المؤمنين
.
If the door of buying and selling is opened in the mosque, the mosque turns into a marketplace and departs from the purpose for which mosques were built, and there becomes a disturbance with a far greater impact than reciting the Qur'an with a raised voice, where the Messenger (peace be upon him) considered raising the voice in the remembrance of Allah and reciting His Book as harmful to the worshippers. So buying and selling harms them without a doubt, even more and more. If that is the case, then the leasing of these tapes and their rental by some of the worshippers, first, is not called selling. Second, it is supposed that the harm we understood, which is usually realized through buying and selling, is not realized through this leasing and renting. If this is combined, then I return to my first statement that there is no objection to it. Why? Because it does not contradict a text, and because it does not contradict the purpose of the text that we explained earlier. In a more concise phrase, if the leasing and renting, if I may use the language of the mute, do you know the mute? The one who does not speak. In the language of the mute, the Europeans, unfortunately, know this language, and it undoubtedly benefits them and saves them many, many things, where they put a price on the goods, so you take the goods and throw the price in the mute language, no talking.
If it is in this language, then there is no doubt that it is permissible. But as for how much, and how much, and a lot, and a little, and "take care of us, we are poor and destitute," this is not permissible.
