Is the wife's mother permanently forbidden or temporarily forbidden?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The questioner asks: Is the wife's mother permanently forbidden or temporarily forbidden?

The Shaykh : The wife's mother is permanently forbidden to her daughter's husband, and this prohibition is established by the mere conclusion of the marriage contract. So, if a man contracts a valid, lawful marriage with a woman and then divorces her on the spot, her mother becomes forbidden to him, and he becomes forbidden to her mother. This is based on the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He:
Prohibited to you [for marriage] are your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, your father's sisters, your mother's sisters, your brother's daughters, your sister's daughters, your [milk] mothers who nursed you, your sisters through nursing, your wives' mothers
[An-Nisa 4:23]
