The daughter's husband is a mahram to her mother

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q2: A woman asks: Is my daughter's husband a mahram to me, or is he a stranger to me? If he is a mahram, is it permissible for me to be alone with him and shake his hand? And if he is a stranger to me, why is that, when I could never marry him? What are the limits of my relationship with him?
A2: The daughter's husband is a mahram, and it is permissible to be alone with him and shake his hand, just as with other mahrams. The evidence for his being a mahram is the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Prohibited to you [for marriage] are your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, your father's sisters, your mother's sisters, your brother's daughters, your sister's daughters, your [milk] mothers who nursed you, your sisters through nursing, your wives' mothersحُرِّمَتْ عَلَيْكُمْ أُمَّهَاتُكُمْ وَبَنَاتُكُمْ وَأَخَوَاتُكُمْ وَعَمَّاتُكُمْ وَخَالاتُكُمْ وَبَنَاتُ الأَخِ وَبَنَاتُ الأُخْتِ وَأُمَّهَاتُكُمُ اللاتِي أَرْضَعْنَكُمْ وَأَخَوَاتُكُمْ مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ وَأُمَّهَاتُ نِسَائِكُمْ
[An-Nisa 4:23]
The relevant part of the verse is His saying:
and the mothers of your wivesوَأُمَّهَاتُ نِسَائِكُمْ
Thus, the wife's mother is permanently forbidden to her daughter's husband, making him a mahram to her.
