The questioner : The questioner says, from her questions, this question: she says, "I wash the limb that is required to be washed in wudu more than what is required. Is this forbidden? I wash the limb frequently due to waswas, and also in prayer I repeat the recitation of al-Fatihah more than once, and likewise the recitation of al-Fatihah..."

The Shaykh : And likewise what? ... .

The questioner : And likewise the recitation of al-Fatihah, I read it more than once, and I also repeat the taslim several times. On one occasion, a disagreement arose between me and my husband regarding this matter, and he said that this is forbidden. What is your opinion, O honorable Shaykh?

The Shaykh : Our opinion is that increasing in wudu beyond three is transgressing the limits of Allah. And Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, said:
And whoever transgresses the limits of Allah has certainly wronged himself وَمَن يَتَعَدَّ حُدودَ اللَّهِ فَقَد ظَلَمَ نَفسَهُ
[At-Talaq 65:1]
And in the hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) that he performed wudu once, once, and twice, twice, and three times, three times, and he said:
Whoever does more than that has done badly, done to extremes and done wrong. من زاد على هذا فقد أساء وتعدّى وظلم
Sunan an-Nasa'i 140Hasan (Darussalam)
.
And likewise it is said in prayer: the one who prays does not repeat the dhikr of prayer more than once except for what the Sunnah has come with. So he does not repeat al-Fatihah, nor the takbir, nor the recitation of a surah with al-Fatihah. As for what has come with repetition, such as the tasbih in ruku' and in sujud, there is no harm in repeating it as much as he wishes. And I advise this woman not to persist in waswas, and I say that she may perhaps reach a severe state, because Shaytan lures the children of Adam from the small to the smaller, and from the smaller to the greater, and may Allah protect us. So she should seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan, and not increase beyond what the Shari'ah has brought, neither in her wudu nor in her prayer. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you and bless you.
