Is it true that a person who dies is either in Sijjin or in 'Iliyyin?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Is it true that a person who dies is either in Sijjin or in 'Iliyyin? May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : Yes, this is what the Sunnah has stated. Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, says regarding the wicked man:
Write the book of My servant in Sijjin
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 5:1244
in the lowest of the seven earths. And if he is among the righteous, He says:
Record the book of my servant in ‘Illiyun
Mishkat al-Masabih 1630
And so it is in the Hereafter; people are either in Sijjin or in 'Iliyyin, either in Paradise or in the Fire. Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, said:
(14) And the Day the Hour appears - that Day they will become separated. (15) And as for those who had believed and done righteous deeds, they will be in a garden [of Paradise], delighted. (16) But as for those who disbelieved and denied Our verses and the meeting of the Hereafter, those will be brought into the punishment [to remain].
[Ar-Rum 30:14-16]
And Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, said:
A party will be in Paradise and a party in the Blaze.
[Ash-Shuraa 42:7]
.
And on this occasion, I would like to point out an issue that some people say without realizing it. When they speak about a person who has died, they say: "and he was transferred to his final resting place", meaning by this the grave. This is a clear error, for the grave is not the final resting place. The final resting place is either Paradise or the Fire. As for the grave, a person comes to it and then departs from it. His presence in the grave is like that of a visitor who stayed for a period and then left. It is mentioned that some Bedouin man heard a reciter reciting the words of Allah the Exalted:
Has the competition for more wealth and children distracted you, until you visited the graves?
So this Bedouin man said: "By Allah, he will surely be resurrected", because a visitor is not a resident. Therefore, one must be cautious about using this term, namely saying that he has moved to his final resting place, because its implication is the denial of the Resurrection and that there is no Resurrection. We know that a Muslim who says this does not intend this meaning, but it slips from his tongue out of habit, following those who said it without realizing it. It is obligatory to be cautious of it and to warn against it. Yes.
