Exegesis of His saying: (( Nay! Indeed, the record of the wicked is in Sijjin. ))

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :
(6) The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the worlds? (7) No! Indeed, the record of the wicked is in sijjeen. يوم يقوم الناس لرب العالمين * كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَابَ الْفُجَّارِ لَفِي سِجِّينٍ
[Al-Mutaffifin 83:6-7]
"Nay" in the Noble Qur'an and the Arabic language carries several meanings, one of which is "truly." So here,
No! Indeed, the record of the wicked is in sijjeen. كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَابَ الْفُجَّارِ لَفِي سِجِّينٍ
[Al-Mutaffifin 83:7]
Who is meant by "the wicked" here? The disbelievers. Their record, meaning: they are written in Sijjin. Sijjin is the lower earth, as evidenced by
No! Indeed, the record of the righteous is in 'illiyyun. كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَابَ الْأَبْرَارِ لَفِي عِلِّيِّينَ
[Al-Mutaffifin 83:18]
. Ilyoon is the highest thing, so Sijjin is the lowest thing. This is a rule in the Noble Qur'an: that a thing is known by its opposite. Had he not said
No! Indeed, the record of the righteous is in 'illiyyun. كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَابَ الْأَبْرَارِ لَفِي عِلِّيِّينَ
[Al-Mutaffifin 83:18]
, we would not have understood the meaning of Sijjin. But by contrasting the record of the righteous with the record of the wicked: if this is in Ilyoon, the other is in the lowest place. This is a rule of exegesis: "You know a word by mentioning its opposite". Look at the saying of Allah the Exalted:
[either] go forth in companies or go forth all together. فَانْفِرُوا ثُبَاتٍ أَوِ انْفِرُوا جَمِيعاً
[An-Nisa 4:71]
What is the meaning of "in groups"? Individually. How did you know "individually"? From His saying:
or go forth all together. أَوِ انْفِرُوا جَمِيعاً
[An-Nisa 4:71]
. The time is up. Now, we end here with what we wanted to discuss in these noble verses. I repeat that we should strive to reflect upon the Qur'an and understand its meaning, and to ask the scholars if we do not know.
I ask Allah the Exalted to make me and you among those who recite His Book with its due recitation, and to make it an intercessor for us on the Day we meet Him. Indeed, He is capable of all things. And we move on to the questions, asking Allah to grant us success in correctness.
