Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (Nay! Indeed, the record of the wicked)]

Allah the Exalted said:
(7) No! Indeed, the record of the wicked is in sijjeen. (8) And what can make you know what is sijjeen?كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَابَ الْفُجَّارِ لَفِي سِجِّينٍ * وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا سِجِّينٌ
[Al-Mutaffifin: 7-8] .
(Nay) when it appears in the Qur'an has meanings according to the context; it may be a particle of deterrence and prohibition,And it may mean: truly, or it may have other meanings indicated by the context; because words in the Arabic language do not have an inherent meaning that they cannot exceed, but rather many Arabic words have meanings that differ according to the context of the speech.

In this verse, Allah the Exalted says:
(7) No! Indeed, the record of the wicked is in sijjeen. (8) And what can make you know what is sijjeen?كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَابَ الْفُجَّارِ لَفِي سِجِّينٍ * وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا سِجِّينٌ
[Al-Mutaffifin: 7-8] It is possible that it means: Truly, the record of the wicked is in Sijjin, or it may mean the deterrence from denying the Day of Judgment, and in any case, Allah the Exalted has clarified in this noble verse that the record of the wicked is in Sijjin,And Sijjin, the scholars said: it is derived from the prison, which is narrowness;Meaning: in a narrow place.
And this narrow place is the Fire of Hell -may Allah protect us from it-As Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) said:
(13) And when they are thrown into a narrow place therein bound in chains, they will cry out thereupon for destruction. (14) [They will be told], "Do not cry this Day for one destruction but cry for much destruction."وَإِذَا أُلْقُوا مِنْهَا مَكَاناً ضَيِّقاً مُقَرَّنِينَ دَعَوْا هُنَالِكَ ثُبُوراً * لا تَدْعُوا الْيَوْمَ ثُبُوراً وَاحِداً وَادْعُوا ثُبُوراً كَثِيراً
[Al-Furqan: 13-14] , and it came in the long, famous hadith of al-Bara' ibn 'Azib regarding the story of the dying person and what happens after death that Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, says: (Write the record of My servant in Sijjin) meaning: the disbeliever in the lowest of the seven earths, so Sijjin is the lowest part of the earth, which is the abode of the Fire, we seek refuge in Allah from it; so this record is in Sijjin.

Then Allah, Mighty and Majestic, magnified this Sijjin by saying:
And what informs you about Sijjin?وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا سِجِّينٌ
[Al-Mutaffifin: 8] So the interrogation here is for magnification,Meaning: what is it that informs you about Sijjin? Did you search for it? Did you ask about it until it was made clear to you? And magnification may be for the greatness of a thing in elevation, or it may be for the greatness of a thing in descent, and this magnification regarding Sijjin is not for its elevation and height, but for its lowness and descent.

Then Allah the Exalted said:
A written record.كِتَابٌ مَرْقُومٌ
[Al-Mutaffifin: 9] (Record) does not refer back to Sijjin,And it refers back to the record in His saying:
No! Indeed, the record of the wickedكَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَابَ الْفُجَّارِ
[Al-Mutaffifin: 7] so what is this record? He said:
A written record.كِتَابٌ مَرْقُومٌ
[Al-Mutaffifin: 9] meaning: written, nothing is added to it and nothing is subtracted from it, it is not replaced and not changed, but rather this is their destination and their abode -may Allah protect us from it- forever.
