What is the ruling on taking omens?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And this kind of taking omens is exactly the same as the other; it is taking omens and using certain things to ward off the evil of the evil eye, as they claim. Do you not see today that many owners of new, luxurious cars hang a sandal on the back of their cars? Have you not seen this thing? And the older and more worn the sandal is, the more it is believed to ward off the effect of the evil eye from this new car. This is the height of ignorance. Taking omens in Islam is forbidden, and the term is derived from birds. It was one of the customs of the pre-Islamic age of ignorance. The pre-Islamic age of ignorance had contradictions in it; they had intellect, and they had extreme foolishness. One of these instances of extreme foolishness was that if one of them resolved to travel and prepared for the journey, bringing provisions and everything else, and all that remained was to mount the camel or the she-camel, and he would ride and walk a little, and a bird would fly in front of him. If this bird flew to the right, the journey was blessed, and if it flew to the left, the journey was inauspicious. This is why taking omens was named so, because it is related to the bird by which the person of the pre-Islamic age of ignorance would take an omen. I wonder, is this person's intellect greater, or, if I may say so, is this small creature, the bird, the one who is in control?! There is no doubt that Allah the Exalted brought about what He said:
And We have certainly honored the children of Adam and carried them on the land and sea and provided for them of the good things and preferred them over much of what We have created, with [definite] preference. ولقد كرمنا بني آدم وحملناهم في البر والبحر وفضلناهم على كثير ممن خلقنا تفضيلا
[Al-Isra 17:70]
There is no doubt that this human being is better than this bird. How did this small bird become the leader of this large human being?! This is one of the wonders of the degradation of the intellect of the pre-Islamic age of ignorance. So what about you today, O Muslims?
