The weakness of the hadith: “Prayer in Bayt al-Maqdis is equivalent to five hundred prayers.”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : However, the virtue of these three mosques, for which the Wise Lawgiver permitted traveling specifically for the sake of prayer, has been established by the multiplication of the virtue of prayer in them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said...

The questioner: Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah and His blessings:
A prayer in this mosque of mine is worth a thousand prayers in any other mosque, except the Sacred Mosque. صلاة في مسجدي هذا بألف صلاة مما سواه من المساجد إلا المسجد الحرام
This is how the hadith came in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim; it did not associate the two Sacred Mosques here with the virtue mentioned for them, unlike the first hadith. However, the virtue of prayer in al-Masjid al-Aqsa has come in some other hadiths outside the two Sahihs, some of which have sound chains of narration and some of which do not. The famous of these hadiths in books and on the tongues of people is that prayer in al-Masjid al-Aqsa is equivalent to five hundred prayers. But there is weakness in the chain of this hadith, especially since it has come in another hadith with a strong chain that prayer in al-Masjid al-Aqsa is equivalent to two hundred and fifty prayers. So the virtue is not for the Rock, but for the mosque itself. And what is said in some books that narrate whatever comes to mind, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ascended from the Rock, and that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was raised and ascended, the Rock followed him, and therefore it remained suspended in the air, this is nonsense with no value whatsoever from a scholarly perspective. This is what I wanted to remind you of, and the summary of that is that one should not sanctify what the Shari'ah has not sanctified, nor magnify what the Shari'ah has not magnified. So regarding this image that has spread today, one should be alerted to that.
Abu Layla : Our Shaykh, regarding the Rock, I entered this hole or cave that they talk about; there is nothing in it, no airplane or anything, it is ordinary, carved out and descending below only!

The Shaykh : And that is correct.
