Who is the Ummah of Response?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : This is a glad tidings issued by the Messenger (peace be upon him). But who is it? As some of our brothers present know, the term "Ummah" in the language of the Shari'ah is divided into two categories: the Ummah of the Call and the Ummah of Response. The Ummah is divided into two categories in the language of the Shari'ah: the Ummah of the Call and the Ummah of Response. The Ummah of the Call is the entire world; they are all called to adopt Islam as their religion
And whoever desires other than Islam as religion - never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers.
[Ali 'Imran 3:85]
. The Ummah of Response are those who responded to Allah and the Messenger. The Ummah of the Call is everyone on earth; that is, they are called to adopt Islam as their religion. As for the Ummah of Response, they are those who responded to Allah and the Messenger. Here, we must pause for a moment. The Ummah of the Call is the one intended in such as his saying (peace be upon him):
There is no man from this Ummah, whether a Jew or a Christian, who hears of me and then does not believe in me, except that he will enter the Fire.
This is the Ummah of the Call. They heard of the Messenger (peace be upon him) but did not believe in him. And here, attention must be drawn to the fact that they heard of him (peace be upon him) in accordance with the belief in the oneness of Allah and the morals for which Allah praised him when He said:
And indeed, you are upon a great character
We want two things from this. The first is that it is obligatory for Islamic callers, truly, to understand the Messenger of Allah truly so that they convey his description to the Ummah of the Call in a manner that matches what the Messenger (peace be upon him) was. Because this call, when conveyed to disbelievers in the correct manner, becomes a cause for them to accept it, for it is the fitrah (innate natural disposition) upon which Allah created people. But if this call deviates from the correct, matching description of what it was in the time of the Messenger (peace be upon him) regarding his call, or if the descriptions of the Messenger (peace be upon him) are conveyed contrary to his actual reality, then that will be a deterrent for the Ummah of the Call from believing in Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). Let us give you an example. If it is said to foreign, disbelieving people who judge by their material minds that the Messenger (peace be upon him) is described in a way that does not match his description (peace be upon him), neither in terms of his being a human being by the command of the Exalted:
Say, "I am only a man قل إنما أنا بشر
[Al-Kahf 18:110]
, nor in terms of his description as a Messenger, a Prophet, and a Chosen One, then if the description of the Messenger is conveyed in a way that matches neither his human attribute nor his prophetic attribute, that will be a deterrent for disbelievers from believing in him (peace and blessings be upon him), and the result of that is disbelief in Allah (Mighty and Majestic). For example, if it is said that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) was the first of Allah's creation, and we hear this from many Islamic countries, this is not logically reasonable, nor is it found in the Book of Allah or in the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). So this description, when conveyed to disbelievers, will be a stumbling block in the path of their faith. And so, infer from this many of the descriptions we hear in some Islamic lands. For example, that the Messenger of Allah was a light, and that he had no shadow when he walked under the sun, and that the sword did not cut him because he was not material, and many, many such myths. Therefore, I wanted to draw attention to his saying (peace be upon him):
There is no man from this Ummah, whether a Jew or a Christian, who hears of me
, meaning in accordance with what he was, both in terms of his Shari'ah description and his natural human description. They say, for example, that when the Messenger's mother gave birth to him, she did not give birth to him as women give birth to sons, but rather he came out of her navel. What is this?! It is deifying the Messenger such that he would come out from that exit! O people, it is enough that Allah said:
And indeed, you are upon a great character
. So, if Islam is conveyed in its nature and the way Allah (Mighty and Majestic) revealed it, and among that is that he (peace be upon him) is a human chosen by Allah (Mighty and Majestic), then this would be a very strong cause for people to enter the religion of Allah in large numbers. So, I want to arrive now at the Ummah of Response. Who is the Ummah of Response? It is the one that is limited only to saying "La ilaha illa Allah" (There is no god but Allah) and then does not understand the meaning of this word, as we explained recently in previous sessions. And even if they understand it, they do not fulfill its obligations and implications. Would this be the Ummah of Response in one aspect? Yes, but it is not the one the Messenger intended. And here is the point of the speech: he gave glad tidings by saying:
Give glad tidings to this Ummah of elevation, glory, and honor, and establishment in the earth. And whoever among them does a deed for the world, he will have no share in the Hereafter.
. We see today, for example, mosques being raised and built, but first, the majority of this money is not clean, not from good earnings. And even if it were from good earnings, it is not built upon the fear of Allah, because it is built contrary to the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). So, O our brothers, be aware: it is not possible for us to be the Ummah of Response and have honor in the earth unless we act upon what Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and His Messenger commanded us to do, which is performing the obligatory duties and abstaining from the forbidden. At that time, the believers will respond to Allah and the Messenger
And that day the believers will rejoice (5) In the victory of Allah
[Ar-Rum 30:4-5]
.

The questioner : A very important point, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Please go ahead.

The questioner : It is in the saying of the Exalted:
Allah has promised those who have believed among you and done righteous deeds that He will surely grant them succession [to authority] upon the earth just as He granted it to those before them and that He will surely establish for them [therein] their religion which He has preferred for them
[An-Nur 24:55]
... He will establish them ... The establishment is not for the selves!

The Shaykh : Yes, exactly.

The questioner : Their religion which He chose for them, and if He were to change it ...
they worship Me, not associating anything with Me
[An-Nur 24:55]
.

The Shaykh : So, it is obligatory for us to understand the religion which He chose.

The questioner : O Shaykh, if you please, the other conditions for establishment ...
[And they are] those who, if We give them authority in the land, establish prayer and give zakah and enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong
[Al-Hajj 22:41]
Is establishment a means or a goal? As you mentioned ... Why do you not apply Islam to yourselves?

The Shaykh : That is correct.

The questioner : Why do you not apply the law of Allah in your lives?

The Shaykh: Allahu Akbar.

The questioner : So, establishment is a means to applying the judgment of Allah (Mighty and Majestic).

The Shaykh : It is so. Well, Professor, I am satisfied for now, if you permit, we will depart, if Allah wills, and we will meet you tomorrow, if Allah wills.
