Is it permissible to say that our recitation of the Qur'an is created?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Is it permissible to say that our recitation of the Qur'an is created?

The Shaykh : In my opinion, there is no need or justification for raising this issue in the present day, because it may lead listeners to misunderstand this statement, whether it is affirmed or denied. If one says, "My recitation of the Qur'an is created," it may be taken to mean that the Qur'an itself is created. This is what happened to the Imam of the Muhaddithin in his time, Imam al-Bukhari. The senior scholars among his companions and many of the memorizers of hadith opposed and fought him because he said this word. Now, we are not in that position in this era, because the majority of Muslims today, when they share with us the belief that the Qur'an is the speech of Allah and that the speech of Allah is not created, interpret it in a well-known way in their books: that the speech of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) is the Self (Nafs) and not audible verbal speech, according to the chosen ones. The existing disagreement is sufficient for us, and we do not want to stir up an old disagreement that existed among the people of the Sunnah themselves. The disagreement that exists today between the people of the Sunnah and the followers of the people of hadith, and those who oppose them from among those who belong to the Maturidi or Ash'ari school, is sufficient for us. So it is not permissible for us to stir up [disagreement] among ourselves, we who say that the speech of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is true, audible speech, as in the noble verse:
so listen to what is revealed فاستمع لما يوحى
[Taha 20:13]
.
As for whether it is permissible for me to say, "My recitation of the Qur'an is created," what are the consequences of this, especially in the present day?
It is my belief, and this is the summary of my answer, that it is not relevant now in the present day. However, if an individual has a doubt or a problem regarding this word, whether in the negative or the affirmative, this can be discussed with him individually. But to raise it collectively like this among people, when most of them are completely free of this topic in their minds, whether it is said to be permissible in this sense or not permissible in that sense, this is my answer to this question.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : And beware of that.
