Times of the Prayers

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: We are from Iraq and reside in Poland. Regarding prayer, we are unaware of the prayer times here. How should we proceed? Can the prayer times be estimated so that we can perform our obligations at their proper times? It is possible that we have prayed some prayers outside their times. What is the ruling in this case?

Answer: Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, has specified the times for prayer, and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) clarified them through his words and his actions. They are clear boundaries known by the layperson and the scholar, the city dweller and the Bedouin, and every Muslim. The time for the Fajr prayer is when the dawn breaks, the time for the Zuhr prayer is when the sun passes the zenith of the sky toward the west, the time for the 'Asr prayer is when the shadow of an object becomes equal to its length, the time for the Maghrib prayer is clearly the setting of the sun, and the time for the 'Isha' prayer is the disappearance of the red twilight. These are clear times that are known, and it is obligatory for the Muslim to adhere to them;because of His saying, the Exalted:
Establish prayer at the decline of the sun [from its meridian] until the darkness of the night and [also] the Qur'an of dawn. Indeed, the recitation of dawn is ever witnessed.
[Al-Isra: 78] ,And by His saying, Exalted is He:
(17) So exalted is Allah when you reach the evening and when you reach the morning. (18) And to Him is [due all] praise throughout the heavens and the earth. And [exalted is He] at night and when you are at noon.
[Ar-Rum: 17, 18] , and the Prophet
(peace and blessings be upon him) explained these times to the Muslims through his words and his actions,And he said:
offer your prayers in the way you saw me offering my prayersصلوا كما رأيتموني أصلي
Sahih al-Bukhari 6008
،And Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) says:
Indeed, prayer has been decreed upon the believers a decree of specified times.إِنَّ الصَّلَاةَ كَانَتْ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ كِتَابًا مَوْقُوتًا
[An-Nisa: 103] .Meaning: It is obligatory at specific times in which it is to be performed. Wherever a person is, he must perform the prayer in these clear times that Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) explained to the Muslims. Therefore, it is obligatory for you to adhere to the times, and not to advance the prayer before its time or delay it beyond its time. You must strive to know this in the country where you are by observing the sun, knowing the breaking of dawn and the passing of the sun from the zenith, observing the time of 'Asr, observing the setting of the sun, and the disappearance of the twilight. You must pay attention to this and monitor it, and ask those with expertise in this matter, such as the calculators in that country. You must strive, and Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, will assist the Muslim if he cares for the affairs of his religion.

Question: This timing that you have kindly detailed depends on the sun, but in some places the sun may not be visible for most of the time. Is there another means to determine the timing and times of the prayers?

Answer: They should strive in this matter, and estimate according to what their effort leads to, and also by asking those with expertise and the scholars in their country or around them.
