Continuation of the discussion on the ruling regarding cosmetic surgery.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : ... The gaps, meaning a woman has teeth that are aligned, arranged side by side like pearls, and she does not like that, so she takes from this tooth and the second tooth, creating a gap between them, and this is what pleases her, whereas Allah’s creation does not please her. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said, concluding this hadith:
Those who change the creation of Allah for the sake of beauty. المغيرات لخلق الله للحسن
And so we return to the beginning of the hadith
May Allah curse those who pluck their eyebrows لعن الله النامصات
because this relates to some of the questions. Plucking the eyebrows, in terms of linguistic weight and meaning, plucking is pulling out, as we all know in the language, it does not refer to a specific part of the body to the exclusion of others, but it includes any place where this hair is pulled out, so it is said such-and-such pulled out his hair, plucked his hair. Do you know his (peace and blessings be upon him) saying:
Five things are of the fitrah... خمس من الفطرة ...
Among them is plucking the armpit hair, so plucking the armpit hair is a recommended practice
the fitrah of Allah upon which He has created [all] people فطرة الله التي فطر الناس عليها
[Ar-Rum 30:30]
, ... So restricting the plucking mentioned in the hadith to the eyebrows only, some added the cheeks only, and what is other than that is permissible; this is a contradiction of the hadith and a strike at its first and last ends. The first end, he said "plucking," he did not say "plucking the eyebrows" or "the cheek," he used the general term; the last end
for the sake of beauty للحسن
so whether a woman plucks her eyebrows, her cheeks, her mustache, or her beard, listen, "Whoever lives long will hear wonders," there is absolutely no difference between this and this and this, all four who pluck their eyebrows, or cheeks, or mustache, or beard, fall under his (peace and blessings be upon him) saying from the beginning of the hadith to the end:
Those who change the creation of Allah for the sake of beauty. المغيرات لخلق الله للحسن
let alone the hair of the arms or legs or the like; in short, it is not permissible for a woman to pluck anything from her body for the sake of beauty except what the Lawgiver has permitted, and I mentioned earlier the hadith about plucking the armpit hair. This is the ruling for the woman. And if that is the case, the husband does not like her to be his equal, so he has a beard and she also has a beard, otherwise this is not relevant today because men have become like women... The important thing is that he does not like her to have a mustache or beard. We say, are you the one who created her, or your Lord who created her? Without a doubt, the answer among Muslims is that Allah is the Creator
Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? أأنتم تخلقونه أم نحن الخالقون
[Al-Waqi'ah 56:59]
And your Lord creates what He wills and chooses; not for them was the choice. Exalted is Allah and high above what they associate with Him. وربك يخلق ما يشاء ويختار ما كان لهم الخيرة سبحانه وتعالى عما يشركون
[Al-Qasas 28:68]
So if you want to be pleased with this reality that Allah has written for you, He has sent you a woman who rivals you in something you did not think she would rival you in, so accept the portion of Allah the Mighty and Sublime and be pleased with what Allah has apportioned for you, and you will be the richest of people.

The questioner : Does it make a difference between adding and removing?

The Shaykh : So here comes his (peace and blessings be upon him) saying:
A creature is not to be obeyed when it involves disobedience to the "Creator.” لا طاعة لمخلوق في معصية الخالق
Mishkat al-Masabih 3696
So the husband does not want her to be like that, but her Lord wanted her to be like that, and obedience to Allah comes before obedience to humans. If this is also the ruling for the woman, that she is cursed if she alters Allah’s creation without a legal excuse, then what is the ruling for the man, I wonder? I fear that the earth is still inhabited, if the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) says:
May Allah curse the women who pluck their eyebrows... لعن الله النامصات ...
to the end, do you see if men do not fall under this text? The jurisprudential answer, in terms of wording, is that they do not fall under it because the wording is feminine. If it were the opposite, "cursed are the pluckers," the women would fall under this collective; but the opposite is not the case, the feminine collective does not include the masculine collective, whereas the masculine collective includes the feminine collective.
Al-Halabi :
and was of the devoutly obedient. وكانت من القانتين
[At-Tahrim 66:12]
؟

The Shaykh : Yes, so what is the ruling for men, is it permissible for them to pluck the eyebrows or the cheeks, and this is a reality, unfortunately, in many men, even the committed ones, even the elderly, or those who fulfill the obligatory duties; because the beard is not just a recommended practice but an individual obligation for the Muslim to let his beard grow and not shave it; but some of them, and especially here we pause a little, there are men truly created by Allah the Mighty and Sublime to be hairy, you find their face full of hair, and the image is before you, created with a very strong ferocity, he went out for jihad and fighting, and there is no second example, he is looking at... Nevertheless, these men dispose of what Allah created them with or upon, and they consider it a refinement and a wit to take from their cheeks, and if only they did it with a razor, but they pluck it. Do you see if this action of theirs is permissible? We say, we mentioned earlier that they do not fall under the wording, but they fall under the meaning, a fortiori, why? Because men know, like women, that Allah the Mighty and Sublime distinguished women from men by some physical traits, such as beauty and softness, and the like; so if, as they say today, the soft, gentle sex, Allah the Mighty and Sublime has forbidden them some adornment, some adornment, of this adornment is plucking; do you see if this is not forbidden for men a fortiori? This is the a fortiori analogy that the jurists agree on the saying of
say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word. ولا تقل لهما أف ولا تنهرهما وقل لهما قولا كريما
[Al-Isra 17:23]
I wonder, is it permissible for a son to strike his mother with his palm? It is not permissible, it is not in the verse, the verse is saying what is not permissible, it says to her "ugh," I wonder if he slapped her with his palm, would this not be an insult and harm to her more? Without a doubt, absolutely, and this is the a fortiori analogy, so if Allah the Mighty and Sublime has not permitted women to alter Allah’s creation for beauty by plucking, then it is not permissible for men a fortiori and even more so.

The questioner : Our Shaykh, does it make a difference between adding a part and removing another?

The Shaykh : As for removing a part, for example, a man whom Allah created with six fingers, as we see in some creatures...

The questioner : Defects.

The Shaykh : Yes, ah, you call it a defect, I do not call it a defect.

Another questioner : It is better that it be called a trial from Allah.

The Shaykh : You are right, a trial; the point is, a male or female person whom Allah created with an extra sixth finger, this finger may not be a working, active one, but it is idle and does not work, is it permissible to excise it? The answer is taken from my previous explanation when I rambled around his (peace and blessings be upon him) saying:
Those who change the creation of Allah for the sake of beauty. المغيرات لخلق الله للحسن
So now I say, Zayd from the people or Zaynab from the women, Allah created for him or her an extra finger, he excised it or wants to excise it, why? If it is for beauty, she is cursed and he is cursed, and if it is because it hinders his work, he is, for example, a tailor or she is a seamstress, and perhaps he feels that the extra finger is not working and hinders his work, so he excises it for this and not for beauty, then it is permissible; but let no one say, I do this not for beauty, and his Lord, who knows what is in the breasts, knows that the true motive is beauty, but in front of people he pretends it is for need and removing the obstacle, and the like, and Allah the Mighty and Sublime will hold him accountable for what He knows of his intention; so the excision is permissible and not permissible with this detail; as for adding a part in place of the missing part, if the added part is taken from a human, whether this human is alive or dead, it is not permissible; as for the living, it is clear that it will harm him at the expense of another; as for if it is dead, it will be desecrated for the benefit of another; so neither this nor that is permissible; as for if the added part is an artificial part, like an arm or leg or foot or the like, there is no objection to that, because if the part has been amputated from him, it is a treatment for what happened to him, and if, for example, and I do not imagine it originally, he was not created with it, he is in need of a foot, for example, we have said if it is for need and not for adornment, it is permissible, otherwise not; do you have any more questions?
