What is the ruling on undergoing cosmetic surgery?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The listener also asks: What is the ruling on undergoing cosmetic surgery?

The Shaykh : The term "cosmetic" used in medicine is divided into two categories:
One is cosmetic surgery to remove a defect that has occurred in a person due to an accident or otherwise. There is nothing wrong with this, and there is no blame on it, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) permitted a man whose nose was cut off in war to make a nose of gold to remove the disfigurement caused by the cutting of the nose. Also, the man who undergoes cosmetic surgery in this case does not intend to improve himself to a beauty greater than that with which Allah created him, but rather he intends to remove a defect that has occurred.
As for the second type, which is excessive cosmetic surgery that is not for the purpose of removing a defect, this is forbidden and not permissible. This is because:
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the woman who plucks her eyebrows, the one who has them plucked, the woman who files her teeth, the one who has them filed, the woman who tattoos, and the one who is tattooed. لعن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم النامصة والمتنمصة والواشرة والمستوشرة والواشمة والمستوشمة
due to the fact that it involves creating cosmetic enhancement that is not for the removal of a defect.
As for the student who includes this science in his studies, there is no blame on him for learning it, but he must not perform it in a case where it is forbidden. Rather, he should advise the person who requests this type of cosmetic surgery, advising him that it is forbidden and not permissible. There is benefit in this, because if the advice comes from the doctor himself, it is generally the case that the patient or the one requesting the surgery is more convinced than if someone else had advised him of it.
