Is it considered imitating the disbelievers for a woman to wear short clothing down to the middle of the calf while she is among women at a party?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : A woman wearing a short dress that exposes the leg or part of it, and the many Western styles women adopt from fashion magazines, is this considered imitation if she is not displaying her adornment before non-mahrams?

The Shaykh : I do not know, it seems contradictory. How is she not displaying her adornment when she is not covering her leg with a garment or a jilbab?

The questioner : Among women, I mean.

The Shaykh : Ah, among women. Was the question about being among women?

The questioner : The intention is among women.

The Shaykh : The intention is among women.

The questioner : I mean, some women adorn themselves and decorate at a women’s party or women’s gathering, so they wear short clothing. May Allah reward you.

The Shaykh : I understand you. The answer now is that if she adheres to what Allah has permitted a woman to display before her female counterparts only, then it is permissible for her to do so. So, if one holds, for example, that the leg, the middle of the leg, or less is not an awrah (part of the body that must be covered) among women, then it is permissible for her to appear in a short jilbab, even without stockings, because she has not displayed the forbidden awrah. But if, for example, she appears in a long shirt-dress that reaches the feet, but her entire arm is exposed, then this is forbidden and this is tabarruj (a woman's display of her adornment); because this is not what has been permitted for a woman to display before her female counterparts and women. This is the answer to the question.
