What is the authenticity of the hadith: (A hypocrit was harassing the Companions, so they said, “Come, let us…”) ?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The hadith is authentic.

The Shaykh : Please go ahead.

The questioner : Is the hadith found in Fath al-Majid, which states that a hypocrit was harassing the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in Madinah, authentic?

The Shaykh : No, it is not authentic. We seek aid from the Messenger of Allah.

The questioner : So some of them said, “Let us go seek aid from the Messenger of Allah,” and he said, “Seek aid from Allah and do not seek aid from me.” Is this not sound?

The Shaykh : This is a weak hadith. In its chain of narration, there is a man of virtue, but he was afflicted with poor memory. He is Abdullah ibn Lahi’ah, one of the distinguished judges of Egypt. Therefore, its chain of narration is weak.

The questioner : Even though our brothers who wrote commentaries on the Book of Tawhid often cited it as evidence?

The Shaykh : Yes, indeed. These brothers of ours, my brothers, truly excelled in the knowledge of Tawhid, but unfortunately, they did not give the knowledge of hadith its due.
Al-Halabi : Even though Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, in his work on seeking aid, weakens it; he cites it and weakens it.

The Shaykh : He cites it. I do not remember him citing it; sometimes he remains silent about it.
Al-Halabi : In this specific instance, I am certain that he mentions it and weakens it.

The Shaykh : Possibly, possibly.

The questioner : Now we ask the professor, if Allah wills.
