The first question of fatwa number ( 20243 )
Q 1: I prayed with the congregation, and when the prayer ended, I remembered that I was not in a state of wudu'. Should I perform wudu' and repeat the prayer despite the prayer I already performed, or not?
A 1: Wudu' is a condition for the validity of the prayer; due to the command of Allah the Exalted to perform wudu' for prayer. Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Ma'idah 5:6] the verse. And because it is authentically reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: Sunan Abi Dawud 60Sahih (Al-Albani) Narrated by the Imam Ahmad and al-Bukhari and Muslim and Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi . Accordingly, your prayer while you were not in a state of purity due to your forgetfulness is considered invalid; because it lacked one of its conditions. It is obligatory for you to make it up after you perform the wudu' prescribed by the Shari'ah for it. There is no sin on you for praying without wudu'; because you are excused by forgetfulness. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

A 1: Wudu' is a condition for the validity of the prayer; due to the command of Allah the Exalted to perform wudu' for prayer. Allah the Exalted said:
O you who have believed, when you rise to [perform] prayer, wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows and wipe over your heads and wash your feet to the ankles
Allaah, the Exalted, does not accept the prayer of any of you when you are defiled until you performed ablution.
