Is backbiting about one who commits sins openly permissible?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Is backbiting about one who commits sins openly permissible?

The Shaykh : The original ruling regarding backbiting is that it is forbidden, so it is not permissible except when there is a benefit.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : If backbiting about one who commits sins openly is beneficial to him or to others, then there is nothing wrong with it. A man or a woman who commits a sin openly does not leave Islam, as is the position of the people of the Sunnah and the community, that one is not declared a disbeliever for sins that are less than disbelief. Accordingly, backbiting about these people who commit sins openly is forbidden, except if there is a benefit in doing so.

The questioner : May Allah reward you, O honorable Shaykh, and may Allah bless you and your knowledge, and benefit the Muslims through you.
O dear brothers and listeners, the honorable Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih al-Uthaymeen, professor at the College, answered your questions.
