The questioner : Is there a reward for one who dies on Friday or the night of Friday? And is he protected from the trial of the grave?
The Shaykh : I do not know of an authentic hadith regarding this. A person’s death is not by his choice. If he dies on Friday, it is not from his own effort, nor if he dies on Monday. Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, said:[Luqman 31:34] A person does not know in which land he will die: in his own country or in another? Inside his kingdom or outside it? Likewise, he does not know when he will die, for the knowledge of death is like the knowledge of the Hour: unknown, and it is with Allah the Exalted alone. If that is the case, then if a person dies on any day, his death on Friday, Monday, Thursday, or any other day is not from his own effort such that he would be rewarded for it. However, if a hadith is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding this, it is obligatory to believe in it and submit to it. Yes.
The questioner : May Allah reward you.
The Shaykh : I do not know of an authentic hadith regarding this. A person’s death is not by his choice. If he dies on Friday, it is not from his own effort, nor if he dies on Monday. Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, said:
Indeed, Allah [alone] has knowledge of the Hour and sends down the rain and knows what is in the wombs. And no soul perceives what it will earn tomorrow, and no soul perceives in what land it will die
The questioner : May Allah reward you.
