Errors people commit when they visit the grave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

The Shaykh : The prayer upon the Prophet that He commanded them to perform, they transfer it from the place of first entering the mosque to the grave of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). There is no doubt that in this act, not only is there a reversal of the Sunnah and its transfer from a prescribed place to another place that is not prescribed, but in addition to this reversal and inversion of the Sunnah, there is the affliction that many Muslims today have been afflicted with, who, unfortunately, were not raised by their scholars and guides upon the Sunnah. What I mean is exaggeration, exaggeration in honoring the Messenger (peace be upon him). I do not say in loving him, because the correct love, one of its first conditions, is obedience to the Beloved, as it was said:
"You hope for salvation but do not follow its paths *** For the ship does not run on the dry land"
Then he says: "The lover is obedient to the one he loves" in some other sayings. And the verse in this matter is sufficient, which is His saying, Mighty and Majestic:[Ali 'Imran 3:31] So whoever is sincere in his love for his Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), this love appears in his conduct in all his life, not in some appearances that he engages in and which manifest in some people merely out of ignorance of the way of love. This is not love. Therefore, those who come, especially the first thing they do when entering the Prophet's Mosque is go to the Prophet's grave and stand there for a long or short time and pray upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), they have transferred the prayer from its time, which is when entering the mosque, to that place where standing and staying for the sake of worship, including the prayer upon the Messenger (peace be upon him), was not prescribed in the first place. And a fortiori, supplication to Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) is not prescribed at that station. Especially since they neglect another etiquette, which is that either they turn their backs to the qiblah in supplication, or at the very least, they do not face it. They stand east and west, and if they do face the qiblah, they face the Prophet's grave in front of them. All of this is contrary to the etiquette of Islam. And it was not known from the righteous Salaf (may Allah be pleased with them) that they would come to the Prophet's grave when they entered the mosque, as the masses of people do today, gathering and congregating there. Then they neglect another etiquette, which is that they raise their voices at the grave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). This is an etiquette they have neglected, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) must be honored and respected within the limits of the Shari'ah, alive and dead. He is not honored or exalted by innovations in the religion, as I mentioned earlier from some of what they do. Raising voices at the grave of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is also from exaggeration in the religion. Why? Because raising the voice first in dhikr, as you learned earlier from the hadith of Abu Musa al-Ash'ari, is not prescribed, especially in that standing they stand at the grave of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). And these actions that occur from those ignorant people are from the exaggeration that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade in more than one authentic hadith. Among them is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): Those are the People of the Book to whom Allah, Mighty and Majestic, spoke directly in the Noble Qur'an: [An-Nisa 4:171] ... .
"You hope for salvation but do not follow its paths *** For the ship does not run on the dry land"
Then he says: "The lover is obedient to the one he loves" in some other sayings. And the verse in this matter is sufficient, which is His saying, Mighty and Majestic:
Say, [O Muhammad], "If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you
قل إن كنتم تحبون الله فاتبعوني يحببكم اللهBeware of exaggeration in religion, beware of exaggeration in religion, for indeed, what destroyed those before you was their exaggeration in their religion, and indeed, what destroyed those before you was their exaggeration in their religion.
إياكم والغلو في الدين , إياكم والغلو في الدين , فإنما أهلك الذين من قبلكم غلوهم في دينهم , وإنما أهلك الذين من قبلكم غلوهم في دينهمO People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion or say about Allah except the truth.
يا أهل الكتاب لا تغلو في دينكم ولا تقولوا على الله إلا الحق
