How to Raise Children in Light of the Book and the Sunnah? And What Is Your Advice to Those Who Send Their Children to Foreign Schools?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon the master of the messengers, his family, and all his Companions. We ask our distinguished Shaykh (may Allah preserve him and prolong his life in righteous deeds) to clarify for the Muslim who follows the Book and the Sunnah how to raise his child. Then we ask our distinguished Shaykh also to clarify for us the ruling on many of our Muslim brothers who send their sons and daughters to missionary schools, and who also send their sons, after the age of three, to foreign nannies, especially English, French, and American ones. May Allah bless you and reward you with good.

Another questioner : ... Teaching children in general in Christian schools!

The questioner : In addition to the fact that they graduate from these schools, both from high school and from universities, and most of them do not know how to read:
Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One, قل هو الله أحد
[Al-Ikhlas 112:1]
.

The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah; we praise Him, seek His help, and seek His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evils of our own souls and from the badness of our deeds. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can misguide, and whomsoever He leaves to misguide, none can guide. And I bear witness that there is no deity but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger. As for what follows:
My answer to the question mentioned is, in brief and then in detail, that it is not permissible for a Muslim to entrust the flesh of his own flesh and his beloved child to a non-Muslim nanny who does not believe in Allah and His Messenger. This is because it is known by religious law and by experience that one who lacks a thing cannot give it. So, if one is a disbeliever in Allah and His Messenger, it is impossible for a child raised under the hands of these disbelievers to graduate as anything but a disbeliever like them. Therefore, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Every child is born with a true faith of Islam (i.e. to worship none but Allah Alone) and his parents convert him to Judaism or Christianity or Magianism كل مولود يولد على الفطرة فأبواه يهودانه أو ينصرانه أو يمجسانه
Sahih al-Bukhari 1385
What comes to mind from this hadith is one thing, and what it indicates by the concept and essence of the hadith is another. What the hadith explicitly indicates is that if a child’s father is Jewish, Christian, or Zoroastrian, they will make him Jewish, Christian, or Zoroastrian. However, the hadith has another indication, when we keep in mind the saying of our Lord (Blessed and Exalted is He):
protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones قوا أنفسكم وأهليكم نارا وقودها النار والحجارة
[At-Tahrim 66:6]
to the end of the verse. If we combine this noble verse with that authentic hadith, we arrive at a jurisprudential conclusion from this authentic hadith that a Muslim father may make his Muslim child Jewish or Christian, or defile him, or make him Zoroastrian. It is correct to say he defiles him, even if it was not intended. Zoroastrianism is undoubtedly impure, like the other established and known religions today, except Islam. As the Lord of all people said:
And whoever desires other than Islam as religion - never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers. ومن يبتغ غير الإسلام دينا فلن يقبل منه وهو في الآخرة من الخاسرين
[Ali 'Imran 3:85]
Thus, we can understand from this hadith that making a child Christian does not necessarily mean his father is Christian; rather, it may be a Muslim, but one of those Muslims who are called, or described as, "geographical Muslims" or "nominal Muslims." Because the true Muslim cares about raising his child. First: in response to the command of his Lord:
protect yourselves and your families from a Fire قوا أنفسكم وأهليكم نارا
[At-Tahrim 66:6]
Second: out of consideration for his future interest and the future interest of his children. If a non-Muslim Christian takes charge of raising the child, his end is undoubtedly one of two things: either he will become Christian or he will become an atheist. He is neither a Muslim nor a Christian. We do not want to prefer Christianity over Zoroastrianism, for all disbelief is one religion. But undoubtedly, atheism is worse than the other religions, despite their deviation, such as communism and the like. Thus, it becomes clear, without ambiguity, that if the father is responsible for raising his child, it is not permissible for any of these fathers who truly believes in Allah and His Messenger to entrust the raising of his child or children, especially when they are in the softness of their nails (very young), because a child at this age is easily susceptible to being developed from good to evil and from evil to good. Therefore, it is not permissible for a Muslim to entrust the raising of his child to a disbeliever who does not believe in Allah or the Last Day.
