True education is that which is based on the Book and the Sunnah.

The Shaykh : Or based on Islam, because this term has come to have multiple and conflicting connotations today. Therefore, I said that education must be based on the Book and the Sunnah, because the Book and the Sunnah are the only two sources to which one must turn when people are found to be differing, conflicting, and disputing. Also, because turning to the Book and the Sunnah drives the one who knows them to act upon them more than if one took rulings from books whose authors did not support their statements and rulings with the Book and the Sunnah. I recently saw a small girl drinking in a manner that contradicts the Sunnah in two matters. Of course, we do not want to blame her because she has not yet reached the age of accountability; rather, the reminder is directed to the parents. As it is said, and it is reported as a saying, not a sound hadith, but rather a piece of wisdom: "Knowledge in youth is like an engraving on stone." So, if we intend to educate our children, both male and female, on the Book and the Sunnah, this educated child will grow up on the Book and the Sunnah. For in the authentic hadith: If he grows up in righteousness and piety, he will grow old in righteousness and piety, and the opposite is the opposite. This is the Sunnah of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) on earth: [Al-Ahzab 33:62]. Therefore, we must seize the opportunity of our existence in this worldly life to properly educate and guide our children and those under our care from the softness of their infancy. And so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the famous authentic hadith: Sunan Abi Dawud 495Hasan Sahih (Al-Albani) This hadith singles out the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his companions) prayer from among the other obligations, rulings, and etiquettes due to the importance of prayer in Islam. It does not mean that the guardian is not commanded to order his child to do anything other than prayer; rather, this is a heading indicating that the guardian must order his child to pray, serving as an indication and sign of the obligation to pay attention to the other pillars and obligations. The mention of prayer in this hadith is not a restriction or limitation, but an example of the most important worship that the guardian should order his child to perform. From this, we understand that if we wish to implement the command of the Messenger (peace be upon him): Sunan Abi Dawud 495Hasan Sahih (Al-Albani), it does not mean that we order these children to pray without ritual purity, for example, nor does it mean that we order our children to pray without covering their private parts. Because when the Messenger (peace be upon him) commanded prayer, he meant the prayer prescribed by the Shari'ah, meaning prayer with its pillars and conditions. Therefore, this command to pray necessitates other matters; it necessitates that we order our children to purify themselves for prayer in their bodies, in their place, and in their clothes. All of this is what we must teach our children in their youth so that they grow up obedient to Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Also, this command does not mean that the Messenger (peace be upon him) only commanded us to order our children to pray and what is related to it, but rather it is a guidance that we should educate our children on the established Islamic Shari'ah in the Book and the Sunnah. For example, and this is the crux of this introduction: I recently saw a small girl drinking in a manner that contradicts two rulings in Islam: she was drinking while standing, and she was drinking with her left hand. So, I took from this that those responsible for educating this girl did not focus on educating her on the Shari'ah from her youth. It is possible to remind on this occasion that we must educate our young girls on the Shari'ah hijab, not on tabarruj (display of adornment), short and transparent clothing, and the like. Because if she grows up in this clothing that contradicts the Shari'ah, when she reaches the age of accountability, the guardian will be alert to her conduct, but this girl will not respond to these commands because she was not educated on that from her youth.
