Is there zakah on vegetables, crops, and fruits?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Also, a second question, O Shaykh, regarding zakah on vegetables, crops, and fruits?

The Shaykh : Yes, this is a matter we have discussed often, so we will not dwell on it. There is no zakah on vegetables, by the consensus of the scholars, and as for crops...

The questioner : What is the evidence?

The Shaykh : Crops and zakah are limited to four categories, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to Mu'adh when he sent him to Yemen. He said to him:
Do not take charity except from these four: wheat, barley, dates, and raisins. لا تأخذ الصدقة إلا من هذه الأربعة, القمح والشعير والتمر والزبيب
. Therefore, nothing else is obligatory, except as we usually say, general zakah, for purifying the soul and cleansing it from the nature of stinginess and miserliness.

The questioner : May Allah reward you.
