He spoke about al-Sabuni and his tafsir.

The Shaykh : And each of you has surely heard ofThe Shaykh : al-Sabuni, who abridged the tafsir of Ibn Kathir (may Allah have mercy on him). He stated in the introduction that he limited this abridgment to authentic hadiths only. This is, in fact, a wish—a very important one—that we hope will be realized in all the tafsirs circulating among people. When we read this introduction, we were optimistic about it, but it quickly became clear that the report was not true. This is because we found in this abridgment many, and very many, hadiths that range between weakness and fabrication. Some of them are ones where the original, al-Hafiz Ibn Kathir, indicated their weakness, but he, due to his ignorance of this science, did not understand this indication. He considered Ibn Kathir’s silence regarding explicit disclosure of their weakness as an affirmation of their authenticity. Therefore, the Arabic tafsirs being composed or abridged today must observe the aforementioned point: a group of specialists in every science required by the subject at hand must agree on it, and they should reach a consensus on it.
Abu Malik: Especially the Sunnahs, athar, and hadiths, meaning this, because lying in them is exactly like lying about the Qur'an.
The Shaykh : Allah is the Greatest[An-Nahl 16:44]
Abu Malik: There was a man, my Shaykh, who came to me one day, happy and joyful. He has since passed away and moved to the nearness of his Lord, and we do not know where his final abode is now. We ask Allah to forgive him and accept his repentance.
The Shaykh: Amen.
Abu Malik: He told me, "I have started translating the Noble Qur'an into the English language." He said, "I do not think there is [any difficulty], because I have extensive knowledge of both the English and Arabic languages, and therefore I had the ability to produce a pure, correct, and clear translation." Of course, the first thing about this man who said this was that he did not pray.
The Shaykh : Allahu Akbar.
Abu Malik: And he did not know what prayer is. Second, he kept switching between Islamic groups and sects. Sometimes you would see him as a Qadiani, sometimes as a Baha'i, sometimes as a Sunni, sometimes as a Shia, and so on. So I began to explain to him the great error he had fallen into. He said, "My brother, I am not translating; there is something else that governs the translation." I asked him, "What is this thing?" He said, "There is something that occurs in the soul, an inspiration. So I also transfer this inspiration into the English meanings through a literal translation of the meanings of the Noble Qur'an."
Questioner: ...
Abu Malik: Yes. It is the same, yes.
