The two Shaykhs, Ali Hasan al-Halabi and Ibrahim Shuqara, convey the testimony of Safer al-Hawali and his surprise at the young enthusiasts' disinterest in attending his academic circles on

Al-Halabi : I say, my Shaykh, this statement you have graciously made reminds me, at least in part, of our meeting with my brother Salim al-Hilali andThe Shaykh : Safer, may Allah reward him with good. Perhaps I had already told you the general outline, but the details truly require a long session or a long gathering.

The Shaykh : We need to hear it.
Al-Halabi : Yes, that is correct. It was truly a good session, my Shaykh. It was probably from nine-thirty after the night prayer until two-thirty.

The Shaykh : What Allah willed.
Al-Halabi : In his home, meaning the man, may Allah reward him with good, honored us, and, as Allah willed, it was a good session. Among the things discussed, and there was a great deal of talk, a great deal indeed, we completed our discussion of the reality of the Ummah that you referred to, and the reality of the youth in particular, meaning the enthusiastic youth who find no one to guide their enthusiasm along the path of this methodology of purification and education. So, among the things he mentioned, almost word for word, I hardly mispronounce a letter, if Allah wills, he said: "I am surprised, or I do not raise my head, for many of these young men who are numerous and fill the lecture halls and the like; because they have not been educated with the scientific and creedal education that enables them to bear the responsibility of calling to Allah. As proof, when I speak about jurisprudence or creed, it is as if something ordinary has happened; but when I speak about Kissinger and Nixon, my words fly across the horizons of the world."

The Shaykh : By Allah, may Allah reward him with good.
Al-Halabi : These are some of his words.
Abu Malik: And reality almost confirms this as well; because he has a class on creed; a class on "The Tahawi Creed" in the Prince Mutib Mosque. When I went, I said I would attend. I used to hear that Safer's gathering includes thousands upon thousands. So when I went, and I thought perhaps... I was with him at that time, and if the number was not in the hundreds, I was surprised. I said, where is this that I used to hear? So now, this statement is something he himself realizes.

The Shaykh : And this is from his generosity.
Abu Malik: Yes, he saw that the serious academic classes in jurisprudence, in creed, in hadith, and so on, have a smaller number of attendees, whereas in these events or in general matters, which others call the jurisprudence of reality, people fly to him from the corners of the Kingdom.

The Shaykh : Yes, and they elevate those who speak and delve into these fields, whose benefit we do not deny, more than they establish or focus on the stations of the scholars of knowledge, whose effects are like these good young men.
