He spoke about a difficulty that arose for some students regarding the verse in which the will and the punishment are mentioned: (If you punish them, they are indeed your servants).

The questioner : A difficulty came to me.

The Shaykh : There is no problem with the difficulty you have, and which we have not yet understood, which is in your mind, that this statement is made by one who is among those who say that abandoning prayer is absolutely a declaration of disbelief?

The questioner : I do not know.

The Shaykh : Or the opposite?

The questioner : I do not know.

The Shaykh : Okay, let us see what is behind the veil, what is the difficulty?

The questioner : The difficulty is that

The Shaykh : It is what you raised, no more?

The questioner : That is it.

The Shaykh : Okay, clarify the difficulty for us. What is the similarity between the verse in which Allah related the words of 'Isa and this hadith spoken by the Messenger of Allah? What is the similarity between the two matters?

The questioner : If He wills, He will punish them, and if He wills, He will forgive them. In the verse, they are

The Shaykh : My brother, we will not benefit from you. You are repeating the verse and the hadith.

The questioner : The difficulty here is the will. Here it said, by the will of Allah, Mighty and Majestic: if He wills, He will punish them, and if He wills, He will forgive them. There it said, they are your servants. If you will, then if you punish them, they are your servants, and if you forgive them, He linked it, meaning, to what our Lord, Mighty and Majestic, wills.

The Shaykh : Okay, if we leave the verse of 'Isa aside for now, is the difficulty still standing for you?

The questioner : I did not understand the question.

The Shaykh : If we leave the verse of 'Isa aside, does the difficulty fall away? And I think it does not. Tell me, you say it does.

The questioner : What is the question? It is not clear.

The Shaykh : Whose question?

The questioner : The question you just raised.

The Shaykh : My question is: Okay, what is the answer? Praise be to Allah, as long as it is clear.
Al-Halabi : The question is not clear.

The Shaykh : It is not. Do you not imagine a person who does not have the verse of 'Isa in his mind?

The questioner : It is possible.

The Shaykh : It is possible. Okay, suppose it is you. Does the difficulty fall away?

The questioner : I think it falls away.

The Shaykh : As for me, I think it does not fall away regarding your difficulty. It does not fall away for you. Why? Because a question will be directed to you now, regardless of the verse of 'Isa (peace be upon him). Is Allah not the Doer of what He wills?

The questioner : There is no doubt.

The Shaykh : Okay, He admits to Paradise whom He wills, or as He said in the explicit Qur'an:
He punishes whom He wills and forgives whom He wills يعذب من يشاء و يغفر لمن يشاء
[Al-Ma'idah 5:40]
Is this not in the Qur'an?

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Does this not take the place of the verse of 'Isa?

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : So your difficulty will remain standing, even if you separate your view from the verse of 'Isa.

The questioner : But here it differs.

The Shaykh : Huh, go ahead and finish my story.

The questioner : Please go ahead.

The Shaykh : Unless you find that in the verse of 'Isa there is a meaning that is not found in a verse like "He punishes whom He wills" or what is
He will forgive whom He wills and punish whom He wills يغفر لمن يشاء و يعذب من يشاء
[Al-Baqarah 2:284]
and many verses meaning that the will is in the hand of Allah, Mighty and Majestic. So what is the difference? If you have a difference between this verse that I mentioned to you now and the verse of 'Isa (peace be upon him)?

The questioner : The difference is possible in that Allah, Exalted and Majestic, when He addressed him, addressed him by saying:
Did you tell the people to take... أأنت قلت للناس اتخذوا ...
to the end of the verses.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : He is blaming him, meaning He is asking him: Did he tell them to take him as a god?

The Shaykh : He said: Glory be to You.

The questioner : He said: Glory be to You, I did not say to them except

The Shaykh : I did not command them

The questioner : Except the end of the verses.

The Shaykh: Okay

The questioner : There is a specific group here, his people who took him and his mother as gods.

The Shaykh: Okay

The questioner : This is the difference that I think. There is a general one that includes the believers and the Muslims, the open sinners, and so on.

The Shaykh : This is it. If this is the difference between the verse of 'Isa

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : and the other verse that I brought now. Who mentions the verse "abiding therein except what Allah wills"? Show me which surah it is from.

Another questioner : Surah Hud.
Al-Halabi :
except what your Lord should will - a bestowal uninterrupted. إلا ما شاء ربك عطاء غير مجذوذ
[Hud 11:108]

The Shaykh : How? This verse, until this verse comes, I draw your attention to the fact that it is an error to argue with the legislations of those who were before us.
