The questioner : Okay, I want to ask you about the interpretation of the meaning of the verse
let them not stamp their feet و لا يضربن بأرجلهن
[An-Nur 24:31]
so that He may know what they conceal of fitnah or

The Shaykh :
to make known what they conceal of their adornment ليعلم ما يخفين من زينتهن
[An-Nur 24:31]

The questioner : their adornment. Yes.

The Shaykh : is it

The questioner : So what is the interpretation of this verse?

The Shaykh : These people in the pre-Islamic age of ignorance had a custom of placing things on their feet at the end of the leg, like the bracelets that are placed on the hands.

The questioner: Yes

The Shaykh : But those are called anklets.

The questioner: Yes

The Shaykh : And they have soft bells.

The questioner: Yes

The Shaykh : So when Allah (Mighty and Majestic) revealed the verse of the hijab
O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments يا أيها النبي قل لأزاوجك و بناتك و نساء المؤمنين يدنين عليهن من جلابيبهن
[Al-Ahzab 33:59]
, the anklets became [hidden] because the jilbab is ample and long, covering the feet.

The questioner : Right.

The Shaykh : This adornment no longer appeared.

The questioner : Right.

The Shaykh : Is it clear up to here?

The questioner : Yes, it is clear.

The Shaykh : So the custom was that there was something of a desire to be seen by men; when she walked, she struck with her feet while walking so that the anklets would ring and give a clear sound.

The questioner : It is clear, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Meaning, it is similar to what some women do today, meaning they wear slippers that have a heel with iron underneath that clatters.

The questioner : Yes, this is what I want to ask you about, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Here, I have brought you to it.

The questioner: Yes

The Shaykh : So this clattering means, "Look, O men, this is how some women used to do in the early times." So our Lord (Mighty and Majestic) taught them manners and said to them:
And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment و لا يضربن بأرجلهن ليعلم ما يخفين من زينتهن
[An-Nur 24:31]

The questioner : Yes, well, I ask you, O Shaykh, does the high heel produce the sound?

The Shaykh : No, it is not necessary that it be high, and high heels are not permissible.

The questioner: Yes

The Shaykh : But if it is short?

The questioner: Yes

The Shaykh : And there is a piece of iron underneath that also gives this sound, especially on tiled floors.

The questioner : Ah, I understand, O our Shaykh, high heels are not permissible.

The Shaykh : They are not permissible, no.

The questioner : From which aspect, O our Shaykh?

The Shaykh : May Allah reward you, from the aspect of making the woman sway.

The questioner : Sway.

The Shaykh : Sway.

The questioner : Sway.

The Shaykh : Yes, sway.

The questioner : Yes?

The Shaykh : Sway, and this is effeminacy and bending, which is not befitting.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : May Allah preserve you

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : Welcome.

The questioner : Peace be upon you

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah.
