That repentance be in the time in which repentance is accepted.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : We have a fifth condition remaining.
The student: Before the time of death and before the sun rises from the west.

The Shaykh : That is, it must be in the time in which repentance is accepted; his repentance must be in the time in which repentance is accepted. This means it must be before the arrival of death and before the sun rises from the west. If repentance comes after the arrival of death, it is not accepted, due to the saying of Allah the Exalted:
But repentance is not [accepted] of those who [continue to] do evil deeds up until, when death comes to one of them, he says, "Indeed, I have repented now," or of those who die while they are disbelievers وليست التوبة للذين يعملون السيئات حتى إذا حضر أحدهم الموت قال إني تبت الآن ولا الذين يموتون وهم كفار
[An-Nisa 4:18]
He said: Repentance is not for those when death arrives and they say, "I repent." This does not hold. Likewise, if the sun rises from the west, which is in the end of times, and a person repents, his repentance is not accepted, due to the saying of Allah the Exalted:
The Day that some of the signs of your Lord will come no soul will benefit from its faith as long as it had not believed before or had earned through its faith some good. يوم يأتي بعض آيات ربك لا ينفع نفساً إيمانها لم تكن آمنت من قبل أو كسبت في إيمانها خيراً
[Al-An'am 6:158]

We spoke about these points on the occasion of the month of Ramadan, which we should strive to make the most of. Last year, as I recall, we decided that our lesson in the early part of the night would be on the Nawawi Forty, and in the morning on what? You forgot where the knowledge is? On *Umdat al-Ahkam*. Do you think we should stick to this and take the Nawawi Forty at night and *Umdat al-Ahkam* during the day, or should the lesson be general, meaning we take whatever is available? Yes, fine. In any case, the night lesson will begin. It will start with general talk like this, or we will take a verse from what we heard in the recitation of the night prayer or the obligatory prayer and discuss it. But after that, should we make it on the Nawawi Forty so that it is a focused study that a person can write down? I think this is better. So this lesson will have three parts: a general lesson, a lesson restricted to the Nawawi Forty, and the third part is answering questions. Do you agree to this?
The students: Yes.

The Shaykh : Fine. Who will take charge of dividing the time into three parts? I think the time is from a quarter to eleven until twelve. No, eleven and a half, we do not accept, we cannot. Yes.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Except that it is occupied. Fine, you, the one with the microphone, we leave the matter to you. In any case, we want to divide it into three parts, each lesson twenty-five minutes. Fine, how much time has passed now? A quarter to twelve. So, tonight we will take the questions. From now we will take the questions.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Yes, and next year, if Allah wills, we will repeat. Every year we repeat, meaning we have not taken anything. No, we do not repeat, we do not repeat. Yes, yes, yes. Fine, now we will take the questions, and I impose one condition on you regarding the questions: no question will be accepted unless it is written. So whoever has a question writes it down. Even a comment on the question, meaning some people ask permission to ask a question, saying they want to complete or comment on an answer. It is not accepted, they do not come in. Yes, oh Allah.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Because here the sun comes to us, there it will be safer. Yes.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : No, on the second floor. Yes, now we begin with the questions. May Allah reward you with good.
