Those of the Imams who stated the obligation of zakah on jewelry.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And this opinion was chosen, indeed, and the Imam Abu Hanifah adopted this opinion, and it is a narration from the Imam Ahmad. Thus, the four Imams divided into two groups regarding zakah on jewelry: Malik and al-Shafi'i do not consider zakah obligatory on jewelry, while Abu Hanifah considers zakah obligatory on jewelry. As for the Imam Ahmad, there are two narrations from him regarding this: one narration that agrees with the madhhab of Malik and al-Shafi'i, and another narration that agrees with the madhhab of Abu Hanifah. This is because the Imam Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him) was broad in his knowledge, looking into the opinions of the people of knowledge, choosing what became clear to him as the truth, then looking into other opinions where the truth became clear to him, and adopting them. Therefore, if you trace the two narrations from the Imam Ahmad, you will find that each of them was adopted by one of the three Imams. In any case, the issue is a matter of disagreement among the scholars.
