The questioner : And a questioner asks, saying: Dark discharge came upon me before the time of menstruation, even though I am continuing to take birth control pills, and it has been the custom

The Shaykh : It has been, it has been
The student: And it has been the custom that when taking those pills, no blood comes down. So, is this dark discharge considered part of menstruation, given that those pills are nearing their end?

The Shaykh : The pills for preventing menstruation, in reality, have caused many problems, not only for women, but for women and for the scholars, because they spoil the custom and make it disturbed. Some doctors whom I trust have told me that these pills have more than fourteen harms and that they are harmful, and that the enemies of Islam made them in order to eliminate Islamic production, because they spoil the wombs and cause weakness for the woman, to the extent that some women feel a general decline in the body because of these pills.
So, what I advise our sisters is that they never use these pills, because of the harms in them. And if the woman cannot bear pregnancy, there are other ways that she or her husband can use if she is compelled to abstain from pregnancy. As for opening the door for women to these pills, it is a harm to them without a doubt, a harm to the entire Ummah. And I, in reality, find the issue of menstruation resulting from taking these pills difficult... and I always referred women, when they asked about it, to the doctors, and I said, ask the doctor. If he says this is menstruation, then it is menstruation. If he says these are discharges because of these pills, then it is not menstruation. And this is my answer now. Yes.
