A word by the Shaykh regarding the interpretation of Surat al-Fatihah and mentioning its virtue.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : At the very least, seventeen times a day, and yet many Muslims recite it without understanding its meaning. In relation to it, they are in the position of the illiterate who do not know the Book except as wishes. The Qur'an was revealed so that people would reflect upon its verses and remember what is in it:
[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded. كتاب أنزلناه إليك مبارك ليدبروا آياته وليتذكر أولوا الألباب
[Sad 38:29]
This surah, which I mean Surat al-Fatihah, is the best surah in the Book of Allah. It is the seven repeated verses about which Allah said:
And We have certainly given you, [O Muhammad], seven of the often repeated [verses] and the great Qur'an. ولقد آتيناك سبعا من المثاني والقرآن العظيم
[Al-Hijr 15:87]
For this reason, Allah made it obligatory, through the tongue of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), for every person who prays to recite it in every rak'ah, based on his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Every prayer in which Fatihatil-Kitab (the Opening of the Book) is not recited, it is deficient كل صلاة لا يقرأ فيها بفاتحة الكتاب فهي خداج
Sunan Ibn Majah 841Hasan (Darussalam)
meaning it is invalid, and he said:
He who does not recite Umm al-Qur'an is not credited with having observed prayer. لا صلاة لمن لم يقرأ بأم القرآن
Sahih Muslim 394c
