The virtue of Surat al-Fatihah and the reason for its name
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
I seek refuge in Allah from Satan, the accursed. Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Fatihah 1:1-2] to the end of it.
First: Surat al-Fatihah is named so because the Noble Qur'an begins with it. It has been said that it is the first surah revealed in its entirety, and it has been said that the first surah revealed in its entirety is "Iqra" (Read), and that Allah the Exalted completed it, then the other surahs came. Allah knows best.
The scholars said that this surah contains the summary of the meanings of the Qur'an, in tawhid (the oneness of Allah), rulings, recompense, the paths of the children of Adam, and others. For this reason, it is called the Mother of the Qur'an, and the "mother" is the reference point; the reference point for a thing is called its mother. This surah has characteristics that distinguish it from others, among which is that it is a pillar in the prayers, which are the best pillars of Islam after the two testimonies,Jami` at-Tirmidhi 247Sahih (Darussalam).
And among them is that it is a ruqyah (healing by Qur'anic recitation); if it is recited over a sick person, he will be healed by the permission of Allah, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the one who recited it over the one who was bitten:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2064Sahih (Darussalam).
