The Shaykh : However, these young people must be adorned with the character of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), which is gentleness and wisdom, as Allah the Exalted said: [Ali 'Imran 3:159] If they possess gentleness, wisdom, and mercy toward creation, and if they make their guidance and calling not for the sake of their own selves, but for the sake of the truth and with mercy toward creation, much good will be achieved through their hands. This is due to the beauty, softness, and ease of their speech.
It is mentioned that one of the kings had a dream that distressed him. He dreamed that his teeth had fallen out, so he gathered the people who interpret dreams and told them that he had dreamed his teeth had fallen out. One of them stood up and said, "The people of the kingdom will perish; they will die, the people of the kingdom will die." The king ordered that this interpreter be beaten. He said, "Beat him. Why? Because he terrified the king. He said, 'All your people will perish.'" So he ordered him to be beaten. Then another man stood up and said, "The king will be the longest-lived among his people." The king said, "Honor this man." Is the meaning the same, or does it differ? The meaning is the same, because if his people perish before him, he becomes the longest-lived among them. And if he is the longest-lived among them, it necessarily follows that his people will perish before him. The important point is that a person should use words that bring people closer to him and should use gentleness to the extent he is able. It is not a long task. It is true that a person might succeed if he takes things by force, but it is a temporary success. However, if he takes things with gentleness and softness, he may not succeed quickly, but in the end, he will succeed, and his success will be based on the conviction of the person he is addressing. What comes from conviction is not like what comes from coercion and domination. What comes from conviction means that the person you are addressing and calling will be an aid to you and a caller with you. But what comes from force and domination may yield no benefit other than that you have broken him from the matter he wanted. And in your unawareness, he may return to what he was before. Well, this is one of the great benefits: that the youth of the Islamic awakening have a great role in saving society and defending it, and that it is obligatory for rulers to take care of these youth of the Islamic awakening and recognize their worth. Yes.
So by mercy from Allah, [O Muhammad], you were lenient with them. And if you had been rude [in speech] and harsh in heart, they would have disbanded from about you.
