The Meaning of Allah’s Saying: “Indeed, Allah is Hearing and Knowing,” and the Explanation That Hearing Encompasses Two Meanings

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Then Allah the Exalted said:
Indeed, Allah is Hearing and Knowing. إن الله سميع عليم
[Al-Baqarah 2:181]
Rather, He is Knowing of everything, for there is nothing broader than the attribute of knowledge, as it pertains to the necessary, the possible, and the impossible. Therefore, the attribute of knowledge for Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is the most comprehensive in indication and the most comprehensive in meaning, because it pertains to the necessary, the possible, and the third, which is the impossible. That is to say, Allah knows what was necessary to occur, what was possible to occur, and what was impossible to occur. Listen to Allah’s knowledge of the impossible to occur. Allah the Exalted said:
Had there been within the heavens and earth gods besides Allah, they both would have been ruined لو كان فيهما ألهة إلا الله لفسدتا
[Al-Anbya 21:22]
And it is known that it is impossible for there to be gods in the heavens and the earth other than Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). Now, Allah is Hearing and Knowing, and these are two of the names of Allah. Pay attention, let us take some breadth in speaking about these two names: Hearing and Knowing.
